We have been awfully critical of Todd Standing. Just read any of our Todd Standing Posts. If you don't know Todd Standing he is in charge of the Syvanic Bigfoot Project. The Sylvanic Bigfoot Project's goal is to obtain enough physical evidence to implement government legislation that will ensure the survival of Bigfoot. We don't really care for his evidence. We will say, after seeing him recently in interviews, he does a great job relaying many of the informational pillars of Bigfooting.
Although just posted today (01-29-11) on You Tube, this 2007 follow-up video to his coast to coast interview is a nice presentation to the Giganto theory. He uses the panda's reliance on bamboo as an analogue for why Giganto would have to find other food sources.
We noticed there was no mention of The Sylavanic Bigfoot instead he uses a far sexier term, Rocky Mountain Gigantopithecus. He should have stuck with that, due to the criticism he has encountered. Todd claimed the area where he encountered and filmed Bigfoot was called Sylvanic by native people. Sylvan actually owes its lexiconography to the Medieval Latin sylvnus, from Latin Silvnus, god of the woods, from silva, forest.
We found the video was packaged really well, it was clear and interesting and well worth the watch.

Intriguing. I admit that if we found giganto teeth in caves, we need to focus on this creature still finding and utilizing caves as a major source for hiding himself. It intrigues me that a creature like that could be so enormous and should obviously be aggressive and dominating and yet he shows no propensity to be that way, which tells me that instead of brawn, he uses brain.
ReplyDeleteGuy, all he really does is regurgitate the same old long-uh-'standing' bigfoot lingo from Krantz & others. In the real world, ANYONE who has had the encounters he claims to of had, quickly moves beyond the Giganto theory because they recognize the species behavior as being much more intelligent and human-like. (And I don't count most night-time expeditioners in that crowd.) I believe Standing hasn't evolved his theory because he's never had an encounter, plain and simple. Only those who have had the repeat encounters (& accompanying knowledge) he claims, end up viewing them as more human. Standing hasn't. When MK Davis first called them 'human' several years ago, this turned the vast majority of the research field on its heads because most never had a significant encounter themselves and long relied on Krantz' theorem. But MK was fairly right on with that statement regardless of other controversial theories he's since had. Of course he wasn't the first to recognize this human side either, but he was willing to speak it out loud to a field that really didn't know themselves based on personal experience. 'Human' doesn't mean human like us either, but human as in Homo Something. A lot of people have trouble with this evolution in thought and perception. I've had my own encounters, and I see this unsupported Giganto flag-waving depiction of Standing's as dogma and a telltale marker of someone who really has no idea. The Late Dr. Krantz had no evidence of bigfoot's migration or of its relationship to Giganto, and this holds true today. He never saw one either. It was a theory and that's it. Krantz of course brought bigfoot some legitimacy with academia and that was important.
ReplyDeleteOf course there are bound to be a few people who doubt my experiences as well, but that's to be expected from a field that relies on high-tech gear and organizes elaborate trips for the $$. How can someone have so many encounters when not even looking for them? Maybe its because 'they' decide who gets to experience them. That's still a mystery to me too but I do know that once a researcher begins making decisions or creates promotional material, based on what brings them the most publicity or makes the most money, they reveal themselves as something other then being genuine. One thing I will never do is start offering group trips, because to me that is a form of exploitation cloaked in hype. Not that Standing is doing this, but others do.
Oh and he has long claimed that the name Sylvanic came from the Native people in the region. I suppose the rest of us missed out on the 'Latin Indian Migration' into North America eh? 'Sylvanic' is not a Native term!

Oh and he also left out the much larger 'Roosevelt Gigantopithecus' sub-species that lives along the coastal regions of North America. :) How dare he! lol
ReplyDeleteThere are so many researchers out there who do things for the promotional value Guy and this often makes for a good story. They pursue claims for the publicity it can generate to themselves or the organization. This isn't research. It isn't even genuine in many contexts. There are a handful of people out there active in the field who have a grasp for what the species is, but they are the ones who have long been beat up in the forums because they tried to share their interaction experiences that the majority who didn't believe even possible, and of course they had no proof to share. Not that all are legit either of course, but I think the forums lost out on much progress because of the way they treated those long-term witnesses. How could someone have so many encounters and not get a picture right? Well, when you've had the encounters, you know why getting a photo usually doesn't work out. Not that it hasn't happened, but once you've had such interactions, they wonder if sharing what they have with the world is the right thing to do. There are some significant downside risks to proving their existence that most researchers haven't even considered which I won't get into now. Todd Standing on the other hand really 'works' what he claims to have, know, (or generated), to its maximum financial & promotional end with his professor looking self portrayal. If he's so satisfied in his video and other evidence, why doesn't he just take it to his government officials? If its so authentic that is...

Why are so many falling in line with this Giganto theory... BF is not an Ape and Giganto never lived in N. America... Read my paper on this and at least have another opinion to ponder...
