We are very excited to kick off the official hopsSquatch year with the Bigfoot community's power couple, Todd and Diane Neiss.

This will be their first combined presentation and it promises to be enlightening. Topics covered will be Bigfoot history from at least three perspectives; Native American, pioneer and modern. With the combined research and knowledge of both Todd and Diane, this should presentation should inspire new and old researchers alike.

Other topics include new research technologies and of course Todd and Diane will be available for questions and answers.

Want to know more about these two? Read a quick bio below.

Eyewitness turned researcher, Todd Neiss is an Active Duty Staff Sergeant in the Oregon Army National Guard; and a veteran of the Iraq War.  He founded the “American Primate Foundation” in 1998.  Actively researching these elusive creatures for over two decades, Neiss has been the subject of many television shows and documentaries and has been a featured speaker at numerous Bigfoot conferences across the U.S. and Canada.  He holds an Associate of Arts degree in Multi-Disciplinary Studies from Grantham University.

Diane Stocking Neiss is currently employed by the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) and founded “Stocking Hominid Research” in 2007.  She too has given speeches at various conferences as well as appeared on television. Diane became interested in Bigfoot at a very young age and went on to conduct research in the Southeastern United States as far back as 1974.  She co-authored the cryptozoological book “Elementum Bestia” in 2007. After visiting the Pacific Northwest in the 1990s, Stocking ultimately moved to Oregon, where she continues her research with her husband Todd.  Diane holds an Associate of Science degree in Forestry from Lake City Forestry College in Florida.

Todd & Diane Neiss live aboard a 42-foot motor yacht christened “Jadoo Shikari” (Hindu for “Mystery Hunter”) in Portland Oregon.  Upon retiring, they plan to utilize the yacht as a research vessel; exploring the numerous wilderness inlets along the British Columbian coastline in search of Bigfoot.  Equipped with a mast mounted remote-controlled FLIR camera, they intend to explore intercostal islands and scour their shorelines and interior for any evidence of these elusive creatures.

Together they host a unique, invitation-only, annual retreat for international Bigfoot researchers in the temperate rain forests of the Oregon Coast Range.  Dubbed “Beachfoot”, it provides researchers the opportunity to gather for four days in a casual setting to socialize, network, and share their research without the distraction of an audience, media or vendors.  Beachfoot has attracted researchers from five countries and nearly every state in the U.S.  This year they will mark their 8th annual gathering.  For more information on Beachfoot, please check out their Facebook page simply entitled “Beachfoot” for pictures and commentary about the gathering.  Also feel free to visit their webpage at www.americanprimate.com.  They can be reached via e-mail at americanprimate@aol.com or dstocking@yahoo.com.

Wall Street Journal: $3M Initial Public Offering Investment for Bigfoot Research

Tom Biscardi has filed for an initial public offering through the SEC
“When you’re king of the mountain, everybody’s trying to knock you down,” --Tom Biscardi

In a Wall Street Journal article titled Bigfoot Isn’t Just a Mythic Figure, He’s an Investment Opportunity, a journalist reports on an initial public offering filed by Tom Biscardi to raise millions dollars by selling stock in Bigfoot Project Investments. With only sales and assets totaling a little over $6000 they are able to leverage a new 2012 law that allows start-up businesses to raise cash by offering stocks to the public through an exchange. Companies like Twitter have leveraged the same law.

Read an exerpt from the article below:

Mr. Biscardi and his partners hope to raise as much as $3 million by selling stock in Bigfoot Project Investments. They plan to spend the money making movies and selling DVDs, but are also budgeting $113,805 a year for expeditions to find the beast. Among the company’s goals, according to its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission: “capture the creature known as Bigfoot.”

Investment advisers caution that this IPO may not be for everyone. For starters, it involves DVDs, a dying technology, said Kathy Boyle, president at Chapin Hill Advisors. Then there is the Sasquatch issue. She reckons only true believers would be interested in such a speculative venture.

“This would be the kind of thing where if you believed in Bigfoot, or you thought there really was a Bigfoot and you actually had some money to burn and wanted to play with this, then go for it,” Ms. Boyle said. A lot of ifs.

It turns out the IPO doesn’t have many fans in the Bigfoot community, either. Purists are chafing at what they see as the crass commercialization of a serious pursuit.

Mr. Biscardi, who has trumpeted a number of Bigfoot sightings and captures that didn’t pan out, is a controversial figure among Bigfoot enthusiasts. In 2008, he held a news conference in Palo Alto, Calif., to detail his examination of what he said was the carcass of a male Bigfoot that checked in at 7 feet 7 inches tall and weighed more than 500 pounds. The Bigfoot, found by two men in Georgia, turned out to be a rubber gorilla costume stuffed with animal parts and outfitted with a set of teeth that may have been bovine in origin.

Asked about the incident, Mr. Biscardi said he had been deceived. But that hasn’t quieted skeptics in the community like Kathy Strain, who said she is astonished the Georgia debacle didn’t put an end to Mr. Biscardi’s pursuit of Bigfoot.

“It just makes it a big joke,” she said.

Ms. Strain has been fascinated with Bigfoot since she was a girl in California and mistook the 1972 documentary style film called “The Legend of Boggy Creek” as real. Now a 46-year-old U.S. Forest Service worker, she wants to bring the rigors of science to Bigfooting.

Mr. Biscardi is well aware of his many detractors and says it comes with the territory of being such a high-profile member of the Bigfoot community.

“When you’re king of the mountain, everybody’s trying to knock you down,” he said.

Who Is Thomas Steenburg

British Columbia Sasquatch Researcher Thomas Steenburg

“Since I moved to B.C., I have focused on research and taken the approach to not deviate from the facts,” --Thomas Steenburg

After John Green, Thomas Steenburg is probably the best known Sasquatch researcher in Canada, focusing most of his work in Alberta and British Columbia. Like most long-time researchers, Thomas Steenburg's research and perspective was offline in books and conferences. Fortunately this year, we may get more access to Mr. Steenburg's insights online via Thomas Steenburg's YouTube channel and his brand new website aptly named ThomasSteenburg.com.

He is even making the local news. In a recent article titled, "B.C.'s Sasquatch investigator Steenburg investigated Norgegg reports," he gives John Green credit for laying the goundwork in British Columbia while modestly adding his own contributions to Sasquatch research in BC.
“John L. Green laid the groundwork for many modern researchers like myself,” said Steenburg, who once hailed from the Nordegg-Kananaskis area. “Hairy giants were first recorded in the Mission-Harrison Lake area in the late 1920s by J.W. Burns, a Chehalis Indian agent, but stories date back to pre-contact. He became somewhat of a sensation, with his work being published in McLean’s magazine nationally and coined the name sasquatch as a mispronunciation of the Indian name.”

Steenburg added that his initial exposure to sasquatch sightings came when he lived in Alberta’s Nordegg area. When he was called out to investigate, he went two or three times to B.C. for one local investigation.

“The Kananaskis-Nordegg area was a hotbed from 1948 to 1984 for sasquatch activity,” said Steenburg. “A string of sightings of a 13- to 15-foot tall creature with 19-inch long footprints were not uncommon in a 100-mile radius of Nordegg.”

He added that the construction of the Bighorn Dam seemed to put a stop to sasquatch activity.

“Since I moved to B.C., I have focused on research and taken the approach to not deviate from the facts,” said Steenburg, noting there is a lunatic fringe that hangs on to every supposed sighting as if it was 100 per cent verified. “While I cannot say for certain that I have seen a sasquatch, or Bigfoot if you’re American, I have seen a very large creature from 500 yards that may have been a sasquatch, but I could not verify it.”
So far, his website has three posts:  The Ongoing Sasquatch Question, BE PREPARED and Hucksters and Hoaxers. At Bigfoot Lunch Club we are looking forward to more of  theses bite-sized insights from one the most prolific thinkers in Sasquatch research.

Below you can witness for yourself the thinking process that is unique to Thomas Steenburg.

Two Encounters Inspire Scottish Psychologist to Join British Bigfoot Research Team

Illustration of Fear Liath Mor, the Big Grey Man a/k/a The Scottish Bigfoot
“It was reaching up to a branch on a tree at the side of the track and was about 7ft tall, thick build with no neck and wide shoulders." --Charmaine Fraser, member of the British Bigfoot Team

A British news source, the Edinburgh Evening News, reports on a 41 year-old woman who has had two Grey Man encounters and continues to research Bigfoot all over Britain.

Her First Encounter
Charmaine says she spotted a 7ft bigfoot as a child and since then she’s been fascinated by all things Sasquatch - gathering details of 200 reports of the creatures in Britain, including 50 in Scotland.

Her interest in the subject was sparked after she saw a “large black figure” with no neck and broad shoulders while walking her gran’s dog in remote woodland near Arbroath, Angus, as a child.

Her Second Encounter
She saw a similar creature in the same area shortly afterwards and recalls how it had a “humanoid shape” and eyes that shone orange when headlights picked it out in the darkness.

She also heard a “long, deep wail” in the same woods and thinks it could have been the call of the as yet undiscovered animal.

Mum-of-one Charmaine, who has a degree in psychology from St Andrews University, said: “I saw a large black figure with its back to me.

“It was reaching up to a branch on a tree at the side of the track and was about 7ft tall, thick build with no neck and wide shoulders.

“I didn’t hang about to see its face.”

Local Minnesota Paper Talks about Finding Bigfoot Visit

“Then in the morning I started checking them out. And I couldn’t believe my eyes! The tracks had come up from across the lake..."--Lyle Enger, owner of Maple Ridge Resort in Bigfork,

Tonight's episode of Finding Bigfoot visits Minnesota to examine photos of unusually large footprints taken by the manager of a rural resort, so they set up a home base in a nearby cabin and install surveillance cameras.

A local newspaper, The Herald Review, recalls the visit:

It all started last winter, when the owner of Maple Ridge Resort in Bigfork, Lyle Enger, heard noises outside at the resort. He let the dogs out, but they came right back in, looking spooked. So Enger went outside to investigate, armed only with a flashlight.
The paper continues the description of what happened the next day:

“Then in the morning I started checking them out. And I couldn’t believe my eyes! The tracks had come up from across the lake, up the bank around one of the cabins, and onto the driveway and across the park at the resort,” said Enger. “They were pretty consistent at about eight feet apart. And the first print that was off the edge of the driveway was a perfect footprint. I couldn’t believe it.”

After telling a friend about what he had seen, he contacted Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO). From there he was contacted by a representative of “Finding Bigfoot” to let him know that they would be coming to northern Minnesota because of his testimony.

The crew shot footage for a little over a week at and around Maple Ridge Resort last July. And on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 9 p.m., the episode featuring Enger and his resort will premiere on Animal Planet. The episode is entitled “Bigfoot Basecamp.”

A Family Tormented by Bigfoot will be the Topic of Coast to Coast AM Radio

100 Bigifoot Night chronicles the a family tormented by Bigfoot
"[The bigfoots] aren’t going anywhere." --Unnamed 100 Bigfooot Nights Investigator

Christine D. Parker is the author of two books chronically the fear and torment experienced by her family living across from a dark forest inhabited by bigfoots and perhaps other things.

Ms. Parker will be the guest on Coast to Coast AM Friday January 23rd 2015 with Dave Shrader filling in on hosting duties.

You can read the synopsis oof both books below as well as a watch a video from the website 100BigfootNights.com

100 Bigfoot Nights Volume 1
This true story sets out to chronicle the terrifying encounters that a residential family has had with the creature known as Bigfoot. Accompanied by video, photographs, and audio evidence, the story is written in Christine’s own words as it unfolds. According to the Bigfoot investigator they contacted, “They aren’t going anywhere.” As the world gets more crowded with us, “They” are left with less and less habitat. They have learned to live in the shadows and pass through the forests by our homes. After reading this book just ask yourself, what would you do if this happened to you?

100 Bigfoot Nights Volume 2
Book 2 of the 100 Bigfoot Night series, a true story. How much can one person take? …when your comfortable reality is shattered day after day? Christine has already been forced to acknowledge things that are far beyond what most people's lives include. Instead of just being a loving housewife and devoted mom, she is now having to face – daily – a growing threat to herself and her family from a dark presence in their suburban neighborhood. Once again, Christine documents her family's encounters with real life versions of creatures of folklore and myth – some with gruesome reputations – and supplements her story with audio, video and still frame images. As the Parker family delves deeper into the mysterious world surrounding their own, they also discover an eerie, spectral presence heretofore unseen by the human eye. As Christine's investigation continues, an inevitable pattern emerges. An indication that 'they' know that the Parkers are aware of them. One by one, each family member has a revealing encounter with… "them." The reason's seem unclear. Territorial aggression? An attempt to communicate? Or something else? When it's Christine's turn to be visited the questions are replaced with terror.

WATCH! ABC News Affiliate: 2nd Bigfoot Reported in Tampa Bay, FL

Christie Post from Tampa Bay's WFTS News
The Tampa Bay Bigfoot taking a bath gets a follow up in today's news. Christie Post reports on another photo from the area. You may remember the previous photo:

The First tampa bay Bigfoot photo
Watch the news segment regarding the newest after the article highlights below.
TAMPA - Bigfoot is back on the radar at a Tampa Bay park.

If you recall over the Christmas holiday a fisherman sent us a picture of what he is calling a creature wading through a swamp near USF.

Now a second person sent us a different photo of a footprint.

The report continues to give more details on the footprint photo.

Now more alleged Bigfoot evidence, this time a woman taking a picture of a large footprint. She says it was twice as big as her woman’s’ size 9.
Looking at the details behind that photo, it shows it was snapped with an iPhone6, doesn’t look altered.

Whatever you believe, Legan says, with how popular the park is and the fact a three story tower looks over it, she thinks it would be hard for bigfoot to hide.
“You can see down the river, and up the river,” Legan said.

An image expert took a look at the photographs. His conclusion is that the photos are not altered, rather staged.

Dead Central's Exclusive with Exists Director Eduardo Sanchez

Poster for the found footage Exists movie

Exist is described as, “Five friends on a camping weekend in the remote woods of East Texas struggle to survive against a legendary predator that is stronger, smarter, and more terrifying than anything they would have ever believed exists.”

Since 2011 we have been following the latest latest bigfoot news regarding this found footage film. Initially we announced the Exists cast and the actor inside the Bigfoot costume, followed by Sanchez explaining the Exists trilogy, some Exists production footage and finished off with a great interview with with Sanchez prior to the screening at the SXSW 2014 film festival.

Just in time to promote the new DVD + Digital release of Exists, Eduardo Sanchez talks with Dead Central about some of his thoughts behind the movie. below are a few of our favorite excerpts.

Mr. Sanchez talks about showing the bigfoot:
“This is a monster movie, and for a monster movie to work, you need to show the monster. Even Jaws, which I think is one of the best monster movies ever made… everybody always talks about how you slowly reveal the shark, but by the end of Jaws, Spielberg showed the shark, man. I came out of that theater thinking to myself, ‘Man, I just saw a great white battle these guys!’ That’s what I wanted to do with Bigfoot. There have been a lot of Bigfoot movies before mine, but few of them have really convincing creatures. In fact, some of them don’t really show the creature at all. When you don’t show the creature, you’re kind of cheating the audience out of seeing what they’re there to see. I’m there to see the monster! To see how it moves! To see the monster action! I’ve never been 100% satisfied with anything that I’ve ever seen.”
...and about the look of the bigfoot:
“I’ve been studying the idea of how to make this film since I was a kid, ya know? I remember watching ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’ and always critiquing that suit! The feet were all wrong! Even as a kid I was like, ‘Why did they make the feet like that? It looks like he’s wearing flesh shoes!’ So from a very early age I was trying to figure out how to do this, and I remember seeing Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan. Rick Baker did the ape effects for that film, and I’ve always used that as an example of how to do it right. When you look at those apes… man, they look really authentic. It’s not just the suit though; it’s the way that they’re lit, the way that they’re shot, etc. When it came time to make Exists, I knew what I wanted and, more importantly, what I didn’t want. When I saw the suit and especially when I saw Brian [Steele] in the suit, even as someone who helped design the look of the creature, I was blown away. It totally worked. This didn’t look like a human in a suit. This looked like a creature. From there it was all a matter of saying, ‘Okay, what’s the best way to show this off but not completely over-expose it?”

Finding Bigfoot Producer Talks about 7th Season as Filming Begins in South Carolina

Finding Bigfoot Cast Begins Filming for Season 7 in South Carolina

“During the seventh season, we’re trying to go to places we haven’t gotten a chance to go to before,” --Joe James; Finding Bigfoot Producer

Filming for the seventh season of Animal Planet's Finding Bigfoot begins in South Carolina. The Aiken Standard reports, "During the filming of a town-hall meeting segment for a future episode that will focus on the Palmetto State, 14 people stood up in the ballroom of the Aiken County Historical Museum and talked about their strange experiences."

The article titled. "‘Finding Bigfoot’ crew hears tales of Sasquatch sightings in S.C." continues to quote Finding Bigfoot producer, Joe James as he talks about what to expect in season seven and why they picked Aiken County, South Carolina:
“Our sixth season is airing now, and we’re filming our seventh season,” said Producer Joe James. “This episode could air later this year, but it’s up to Animal Planet when that will happen.”

The episode will be the first based in South Carolina for “Finding Bigfoot.”

“During the seventh season, we’re trying to go to places we haven’t gotten a chance to go to before,” James said. “We decided to film in Aiken because of its central location. We have witnesses from northern counties to the west, and we have witnesses from the Charleston area.”

Russian Yeti Video from the Snowy Woods of the Adygeya Republic

Frame from Russian (Adygeya Republic) Snowy Woods Yeti Video

"The creature was big, looking like a bear, but not a bear." --Eyewitness Ludmila Hristoforova speaking to a TV station

There are several news sources reporting the Russian yeti in the Snowy Woods video. In a nutshell, it all began when the local rescue service received several calls regarding Yeti sightings in the Adygeya Republic, prompting a TV news report and finally an investigative team of friends capturing the bigfoot-like creature on film.

We captured the best snippets from around the web and from around the world. The DailyMail had this nice bullet list:
  • The footage shows a figure covered in hair emerging from an area of trees
  • 'Bear-like' creature was on camera for just seconds before disappearing
  • Creature was spotted in the Adygeya Republic in south-western Russia
  • The Russian team believe they have captured footage of the elusive Yeti
  • Others question its authenticity and say it was a stunt to bring in tourism

Read the whole Daily Mail article titled "According to some Russians this dark figure stumbling through the snowy woods is a Yeti"

The Express has a nice set of quotes from the witnesses who saw the dark figure walking through the snow.
Ludmila Hristoforova, who claims to have seen a yeti figure, said: "The creature was big, looking like a bear, but not a bear. From the door we've seen something big and shaggy."

Local homeowner Andrei Kazarian added: "I heard footsteps and we were pretty sure there was no one else around because we knew for sure everyone else was inside the house.

"Although we didn't see anyone we saw its huge footprints. They were 5 to 6 centimetres deep and couldn't come from a human foot.

"We took a plaster cast of them and we estimate that it probably would have taken about 200 kilos to press the snow down that much."

The Mirror has a nice narrative from the investigators point of view as well as some reporting on the evidence.
The local team then set off to investigate, and as they headed off into the forest said they were stunned when they heard the crunching of snow, and managed to grab footage of a hairy creature as it emerged from the trees.

After taking a plaster cast of the alleged footprint, the group have now handed their findings to local scientists for analysis.
