Today in Bigfoot History | JAN 27, 1976 | 5 Tracks Cast Near Snoqualmie River in WA

A portion of the Snoqualmie River in Washington State
We are big fans of the TV series Twin Peaks. So to find out that there was any activity in the Snoqualmie/North Bend area, where Twin Peaks was filmed, perked our interest.

And just like Twin Peaks this mystery was not what it seems from the outset. Read the original reporting by the Lewiston Tribune below where a man claims to have cast five Bigfoot prints.

Footprints of 'Bigfoot' reported

Lewiston Tribune

NORTH BEND, Wash. -

Jim French says he was skeptical of reports about Bigfoot, the Northwest's legendary ape-man, until he and a companion discovered 18-inch long footprints Sunday in a river sandbank.

"I always believed it was a bunch of bunk," French, 38, said Monday after he and Joseph Langston, 33, found the four-toed, 8 1/2-inch wide indentions near the south fork of the Snoqualmie River.

French estimated the creature weighed about 400 pounds because of the depth of its prints in the sand when compared with his own. French said he weighs about 180.

The animal's size has not been verified by the scientific community, however.

French said he made five plaster casts of the footprints and he and Langston found hair on some tree limbs along the creature's path.

The hair was found about five or six feet off the ground, he said.

French said he intended to contact University of Washington scientists and let them analyze his findings.

His first reaction Sunday, French said, was that the prints were a hoax.

"I could not believe what I saw," said the veteran outdoorsman. "There was no evidence of any four-footed marks anywhere."

French and Langston consulted three other outdoorsmen. They concluded the prints were authentic.

"No man helped me make those tracks," he said. "Whatever made them, made them by themselves."

French first noted the tracks in hard sand. He could see only the toe marks and thought they were from a club-footed elk.

They tracked the creature for a quarter of a mile before losing it amongst loam and leaves and then pasture land where prints of horses and dogs could be seen.

The creature was moving east to west French said, adding that all the tracks matched the terrain.

Slide marks appeared when the animal was going downhill and deep indentations were found when it dug in going up a slope, French said. The stride lengthened when it loped across flat ground.

French, a self-employed subcontractor, and Langston, a lumbermill employe [sic], were using a metal detector to search for items of value along the river when they found the prints.
Not everybody was convinced of the evidence. Peter Byrne thought that a movie about Bigfoot playing in the same area was to coincidental. Check out the clip below.

Today in Bigfoot History | JAN 26, 1869 | "Wild Man" Haunts Ohio Woods

Illustration of a Wildman

January 26, 1869 -- Gallipolis, Ohio is excited over a wild man who is reported to haunt the woods near that city. He goes naked, is covered with hair. is gigantic in height and "his eyes start from the sockets." He attacked a Carriage containing a man and daughter a few days ago. He is said to have bounded at the father, catching him in a grip like that of a vice and hurling him upon the earth; falling upon him and endeavoring to bite and scratch him like a wild animal.

The struggle was long and fearful, rolling and wallowing in the deep mud, half suffocated, sometime beneath his adversary, whose burning and maniac eyes glared into his own with murderous and savage intensity. Just as he was about to become exhausted from exertions, the daughter, taking courage at the imminent danger of her parent, snatched up a rock and hurling it at the head of her father's would-be-murderer, was fortunate enough to put an end to the struggle by striking him somewhere about the ear. The creature was not stunned, but feeling unequal to further exertions, slowly got up and retired into a neighboring copse that skirted the road.

Published in the Hillsdale Standard, Hillsdale Michigan Tuesday January 26, 1869

Credit for finding this article goes to the late Scott McClean who relentlessly scoured newspaper archives to find articles that predate the term Bigfoot or Sasquatch. This search paved the way to find earlier articles of Bigfoot we would have never been exposed to. I never met him, but the community who did, remember him with great fondness. You can read an endearing eulogy for Scott McClean by  the talented Tom Yamarone.

Cliff Barackman also has a great post honoring Scott McClean's memory at his blog.

Today in Bigfoot History | JAN 25, 2006 | Malaysian Government Pays for Bigfoot Research

An Orang Asli tribesman drawing a sketch of a Malaysian Bigfoot
"One team will explore the forest areas while the other to study the existence of the creature..." --Abdul Ghani Othman, Chief Minister of Johor Malaysia

Here's a quick social studies course on Malaysia. Malaysia has 13 states, and each state is has a chief executive, but some leaders are hereditary (monarchy) rulers with the title Menteri Besar, while others are appointed by the political party, these are known as Ketua Menteri. The reason why I mention this is in the article the person who is quoted the most is Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman. Menteri Besar is his title, and Abdul Ghani Othman is his most honorable name.

Originally published in January 25, 2006, I have been trying to follow up on any updates regarding the two expeditions. I have written to the honorable Abdul Ghani Othman and the editors at Bernama.com without even a comment or reply back. For now all we have is the article which is reprinted below:

January 25, 2006 21:05 PM Teams To Track Bigfoot

JOHOR BAHARU, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- The state government will set up two expedition teams to track "bigfoot", the hairy creature allegedly seen in the forests of Johor.

Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the teams would be led by experts who would conduct a study on various aspects of the creature as well as to explore the state forest.

He said the expedition to track the creature would be carried out in stages with the cooperation of the Johor National Park Corporation (JNPC).

"One team will explore the forest areas while the other to study the existence of the creature," he told reporters after chairing the weekly state exco meeting at the Sultan Ibrahim building, here Wednesday.

Abdul Ghani said the vast forest area of the state, including the Endau-Rompin National Park and at Kota Tinggi, should be explored to obtain scientific evidence on the existence of the creature.

"We have obtained description of the creature from those who claimed to have seen it ... we hope the expedition will be able to prove its existence," he added.

There have been claims of the creature been seen in the forests of Tanjung Piai, Mersing, Kahang, Endau-Rompin National Park and Kota Tinggi.

Three workers at a fish pond in Kampung Mawai, Kota Tinggi claimed to have seen a "bigfoot" family last November.

Every year we will revisit this article and try and get some updates for you.

Who is Natalia Reagan from Spike TV's Bigfoot Bounty

Primatologist Natalia Reagan from 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bountyu
"It's fat bottom girls that make the world go round" --Natalia Reagan to Stephen Colbert (kind of).

The quote above can be seen in context if you watch the third video in this post. We opened with that particular quote, because we believe it encapsulates a side of Natalia Reagan we have yet to see on Bigfoot Bounty.

In case you don't follow this blog, Natalia Reagan is one of the three judges on Spike TV's 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty. On Natalia Reagan's Spike TV bio page, she is billed as an anthropologist and a primate conversationalist. But we knew she was more, so much more, so we did some sleuthing, typed "NataliaReagan.com". And found a whole other side to Natalia Reagan.
Natalia Reagan is an anthropologist, writer, actress, comedienne, and cartoonist. She has appeared on the “TODAY Show,” “Fox Edge News,” “Playboy Morning Radio,” and various other radio shows weighing in on different scientific subjects, from the evolution of boobs and butts to how pheromones play a role in human mating. Natalia also is the creator of “Science! It’s Your Friend” a tongue-in-cheek web series that seeks to answer fun science questions using comedy.
She is absolutely hilarious, witty and great at explaining things. This is the Natalia we want to see more of on the 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty. Check out the care-free chemistry between her and Dr. Todd Disotell in these videos she uploaded to her YouTube Channel

And this extra video just released a few days ago.

And finally see the video that definitively answers, "Who is Natalia Reagan?"

10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty Viewership Increases

More people watched the 2nd episode of 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty
Ratings are looking good for the 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty. Overall they increased it's viewership by 13% or 86,000 viewers (from 643k to 729k). They also jumped from 37th place in prime-time to 35th. Normally viewership drops off after the premiere episode. We wont know if this is a trend until we get a third data point (one more week of results), but an increase is an increase.

More importantly, as we have mentioned before, it is the 18-49 year old demographic that advertisers and networks care about. Which brings more good news for the 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty. In the 18-49 demographic they increased viewership by 5% or 15,000 viewers.

We arrived our numbers looking at last week's prime time ratings and the previous week's prime time ratings listed on TheFutonCritic.com.

You'll notice the last time we talked about the 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty ratings, we also used the numbers from the top 100 shows all day. This hasn't changed, Full House still beat them in the same time slot. Who the heck is watching Full House at 10pm?  The fact that 1.4 million Nielsen families are watching Full House says more about America than the quality of Bigfoot Bounty.

We will continue to live-tweet during the TV show and champion our 5 Favorites on Bigfoot Bounty. By the way, they tweet too! Here are our five favorites (in alphabetical order) and their respective twitter handles. Click on any of the twitter handles to go to each persons twitter page.

USA Today Investigates Colorado Bigfoot Sighting

Measurements of the Bailey Colorado Sighting
On May 29th, 2012, around 7:30 at night, Kate Murphy and her friend Diane saw an extremely large figure running through the woods. this all happened after they had decided to take an impromptu hike in Bailey Colorado. During the Hike they heard the snap of a large tree branch. When they turned their heads towards the noise, they claim it was a huge creature with hairy long legs running with very long strides.

This encounter was investigated by the team at UFONUT.com. They have interviews with the Bailey Bigfoot witnesses and a follow up investigation to the Bailey Bigfoot encounters.

Watch the USA Today video below followed by the video of the investigation done by UFONUT.com

And, as promised, The UFONUT investigation.

Matt Moneymaker Stirs Up the Twittersphere with His Bigfoot Bioluminescence

Matt Moneymaker with my nephew
Before I begin, I think it is important that I cover all the caveats. I like Matt Moneymaker, my nephew really wanted to meet him while he was at the filming site of a Finding Bigfoot episode. During all the chaos of producers, lighting checks, sound checks and other fans, Matt Moneymaker gave his undivided attention and time to my nephew. He didn't jump back in to the fray of TV making until he had a good chat with him. I also think it easy to take for granted the contributions Matt Moneymaker has made to Sasquatch field research.

This doesn't change that his larger than life personality makes for an easy target in the twitterverse. And, of course it doesn't mean I have to agree with every theory he has. Cue the video.

Read some of the choice twitter reactions, including ones from Cliff Barackman, Ranae Holland and James Bobo Fay below.

Most of us know eye-shine and bioluminescence are two different things. We have a great explanation for bigfoot eye-shine, or at least how eye-shine works for most mammals (spoiler alert: Its caused by the tapetum lucidum). Bioluminescence, as Animal Planet clearly pointed out in the above tweet is usually reserved for deep water creatures and some fungi.

What do you think about Bigfoot eyeshine? Or Matt's theory? Please leave some comments below.

Dean Cain: 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty Changed My Views on Bigfoot

10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty Host Dean Cain
"I wouldn't have done the show if I didn't think there was a possibility [of Bigfoot existing]...I started off as a major skeptic and I'm much less skeptical now than I was." --Dean Cain on his changed views about Bigfoot

We have not been impressed with Dean Cain as host of the 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty, but he gives an excellent interview with Steve Edwards and Araksya Karapetyan on Good Day L.A.

Moving forward we are going be watching Dean Cain as host in a different light. We still think the host of a gameshow should be tough but show some sympathy towards the contestants like Jeff Probst (Survivor), Phil Keoghan (Amazing Race), Tim Gunn (Project Runway) or Padma Lakshmi (Top Chef). The last example, Padma, did start off pretty cold, so Dean may change.

Read some highlights of the interview below followed by the 5 minute video clip. We think Dean Cain does an excellent job selling the show and giving proper respect to the Saquatch phenomena.

Dean Cain says he didn't believe in Bigfoot before he started filming the reality show "10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty," but now his views have changed.

The series features nine teams of two people, all searching for the creature.

"Since I've already shot the show, I can't say definitively whether I believe there's a Sasquatch, Bigfoot, Yetty out there," Cain told "Fox & Friends. "But I will say this: I started off as a major skeptic and I'm much less skeptical now than I was."

In order for a contestant to win the competition series, they must show proof that they've tracked down Bigfoot."We have field tests first, and then we have a hunt, and if they can find definitive DNA and visual proof...they win $10 million."

Tonight on Bigfoot Bounty Stacy Brown Shows How The Real Boys Do It

10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty contestant, Stacy Brown, trying to set up a shot
"This is the problem, why you can't hunt with dumb-asses in the woods. They talk too god-damned much." --Stacy Brown referring to his competitors Matt and Julie

Tonight's episode of 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty challenges the contestants to get Bigfoot footage. The teams to watch tonight will be The Sasquatch Hunters (Stacy and Dave) and Matt and Julie. Both teams should be positioned well due to their respective experience and talents. In fact, we will tell you why.

First The Sasquatch Hunters, Stacy and Dave, already have decent Bigfoot footage. Its aptly named the Brown Footage. In May of 2012 Stacy Brown Sr. and Jr. set up camp in the panhandle of Florida around the town of Quincy.

Still frame of Brown footage courtesy of CliffBarackman.com
Above is a still frame from the thermal video of the Brown footage. Cliff Barackman of Finding Bigfoot investigated the video, site and witnesses and had this to say:
"While the results of my calculations are only approximations of the creature’s size, it is clear that the figure is very large.  It seems to stand somewhere around 8.5 feet tall, and have a shoulder width of about 4 feet.  The creature is simply too big to be a human, and the steps are ridiculously long."
So for the Sasquatch Hunters, Stacy and Dave, this is old hat. I wouldn't count out Matt and Julie. Filming big animals in the wild is Matt's day job. His resume is impressive if you read Matt and Julie's bio on Spike Tv's 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty Website.
Matt Carman works as a cinematographer for a top hunting and safari show. Carman is a seasoned pro and has hunted just about everything, including: bears, elk, buffalo, hippos, zebras and rhinos. Carman also claims to have super vision and, with his naked eye, can see a deer move from two miles away. He knows what to look for in remote locations and has been upwards of 500 miles out in the woods.
Watch the clip below as the two teams that seem best positioned for this challenge cross paths.

The 10 Million Bigfoot Bounty features multiple teams competing to unearth real evidence of Bigfoot’s existence. You can catch it on Spike TV at 10/9 Central.

What did you think of the second episode? Was it better or worse than the premier? Let us know in the comments below.

Gold, Treehouses, Sci-Fi, Antiques and even the Olsen Twins Beat 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty

Reruns of Full House beats Bigfoot Bounty in Nielson's ratings
Here at Bigfoot Lunch Club we look forward to anything bigfoot-related, research, news, thermal underwear and even TV game shows. Spike TV's 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty is no exception. Let's check out how America reacted to it first.

The ratings are in for Friday Jan 10th. For some bigfooters it was the night the 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty would debut, for most of America the 10pm slot was a time to tune into other offerings. The 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty did not even break the top 100 cable shows for the entire day of Friday the 10th. If you reduce the competition to only prime time shows Bigfoot Bounty ranked #37 at 633,000 total viewers and ranked #35 at 299,000 viewers in the coveted 18-49 yr old  market. SRC: TheFutonCritic.com.

If you isolate the ratings to the 10/9 central timeslot here are the shows that beat it: Bering Sea Gold (DISC) Modern Family (USA), TreeHouse Masters (APL), Helix (SYFY) TBS Prime Movie (TBSC), American Dad (ADSM) American Pickers, After the first 48 hours (AEN), Diners, Drive Ins and Dives (FOOD) Full House (NAN), Dead Files (TRAV), Tosh.O (CMDY).

Why didn't Bigfoot Bounty fare better? Is it because it was a debut episode? No, Helix was a new series that debuted on SYFY and it broke the top 30 with a viewership of 1.8 million. Is it because there wasn't a good lead-in episode prior to Bigfoot Bounty? Again, no. Spike TV actually did really well during the hour and a half block prior to Bigfoot Bounty. COPS which is what Spike TV airs prior Bigfoot Bounty did make it to the top 100.

Obviously there is still time for the show to gain a following, and there may be some watercooler conversations that will spur some new views next week.

At the end of the day what did we think of the show? Firstly it's a reality game show with a familiar formula; contestants compete in a contrived challenge every episode trying to survive to the season finale, losing contestants are sent home determined by the show judges. There may be some twists thrown in, such as immunity for contestants or voting elimination by other contestants, but primarily we have seen similar formulas in Survivor, Amazing Race and Top Chef.

As a game show, Bigfoot Bounty stays true to the format, the interesting characters on the show could carry it, because Dean Cain won't. We do like the lab and appreciate that the three judges, especially Todd Disotell, seem to be true skeptics. In the end of the day we are looking forward to our 5 favorite contestants on Bigfoot Bounty.

After reading this post, a fan sent us this coincidental photo. Cool dude!

Ivan T. Sanderson, Father of Cryptozoology and Spy

Ivan T. Sanderson was in charge of  counter-espionage for British Naval Intelligence
"If you ever doubted my contention that some bigfooters are tied to the status quo power structure, now is your chance to eat crow." --Kirk Sigurdson

In case you are unfamiliar, Ivan T. Sanderson is often credited as, The Father of Cryptozoology. He wrote a book that is essential in any bigfooters collection, Abominable Snowmen: Legend Comes to Life. He predates the four pillars of sasquatchery; Grover Krantz the anthropologist, John Green the journalist , Rene Dahinden the hominologist, and Peter Byrne the big-game hunter.

His bonafides include a B.A. in Biology, and M.A.'s in  botany and ethnology. He has published several scientific journals with the British Museum, the Chicago Museum of Natural History and other institutions. Three of his nature books are considered classics; Animal Treasure (1937), Caribbean Treasure (1939), and Living Treasure (1941). Finally, he was introduced into the living rooms of america in 1948 speaking on American radio and television as a naturalist and displaying animals.

And yes he was a spy...

Novelist Kirk Sigurdson, author of the hit bigfoot book Kultus, will always take us down the rabbit hole exposing the topsy-turvy world we live in. Read an excerpt of Kirk's exposé below.
Notorious bigfoot investigator, Ivan T. Sanderson was most likely the first paid agent provocateur in the field of bigfoot hoaxing, or at the very least, a covert operative. He was well-connected to the Scientific Dictatorship at a young age, having graduated from Eton College in England, as well as Cambridge.

Sanderson worked as counter intelligence for the British Navy during WWII, and then proceeded to work as an agent in British Security Coordination (BSC), which was a branch of MI6 based in New York City. According to Wikipedia, the BSC was heavily involved in influencing "news coverage in the Herald Tribune, the New York Post, The Baltimore Sun, and Radio New York Worldwide.[1] The fictional stories disseminated from Rockefeller Center would then be legitimately picked up by other radio stations and newspapers, before being relayed to the American public." These stories were then placed in major American media outlets to influence public opinion.
Kirk continues to suggest that Ivan T. Sanderson was a the first among other agents that are currently  peppered in the bigfoot research community. Click the following link to read his full post:  Ivan T. Sanderson was most likely the first paid agent provocateur in bigfoot hoaxing.

The 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty Debuts: The 6 Guys to Watch

The cast of Spike TV's 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty. (Back row left to right: Donnie Adair, Rictor Riolo, Dax Rushlow, Ro Sahebi, Justin Smeja,  Stacy Brown, David Lauer, Daniel Greene, David Greene, Kathleen McKechnie, Shaney Warehim. Front Row Left to Right: Donnell Adair, Julie White, Matt Carman, Natalia Reagan, Dean Cain, Dr. Todd Disotell, Travis Miller, January Miller, Michael Merchant, Kirsten Godfrey)

We have been covering the 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty. We had the media reaction to the Bigfoot Bounty press release. We explained how a tv show can afford a 10 Million Dollar Prize (spoliler alert: they can't). And we were even nice enough to let someone to a guest post to announce the "$10 Million Bigfoot Bounty" Set to Premiere in January.

At SpikeTV.com they have bios for all the cast members an the judges. Some of the members we actually know. Below are the five guys to watch out for. This may seem like a Valentine to these five guys (except for Smeja), but we like them!!

Rictor Riolo has billed himself as the first gay man on a Bigfoot TV show. Ranae Holland of Finding Bigfoot can claim to be the first gay woman (read her interview at the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News). He is a Star Wars nerd and great friend, you can find him on Rictor's YouTube Channel. Listen to interview he did in home town of Las Vegas below.

Dax Rushlow is Rictor's partner on the show. He's no-nonsense researcher who had an encounter in 1987. We finally got to meet him in person last year and am looking forward to we meet again, hopefully doin' some filed research together. Check out Dax's YouTube Channel and watch the video below as he rants against a certain sect of bigfooters that some call habituators.

Ro Sahebi, this is the guy to watch out for! We "discovered" bacjk when he was doing mini documentaries and podcast titled Extinct? Since then he has hitched his wagon to an infamous character in bigfootdom and plans to ride the sensationalism until the wheels fall off. We have been covering Ro Sahebi since march of 2012. Click the following link to read all about Ro Sahebi. You can find him at Muldersworld.com.

Justin Smeja was the most famous bigfoot killer until Rick Dyer claimed he killed bigfoot. Click to read full coverage of  Justin Smeja two killings, including Justin Smeja's polygraph lie detector test.

Michael Merchant, we are huge fans of this guy! Michael speaks his mind and wears his heart on his sleeve, his strong opinions may change the next day, but he will be clear on the new data that changed his mind, a testament to his open-mindedness. He also has one of the best You Tube channels. Check out his channel Snow Walker Prime on You Tube. Check him out in the video he just uploaded tonight.

The final favorite is Stacy Brown Jr. He is no stranger to the Bigfoot world. He is partnered up with Dave on the team Sasquatch Hunters. Stacy Brown Jr. already has decent Bigfoot footage. Its aptly named the Brown Footage. In May of 2012 Stacy Brown Sr. and Jr. set up camp in the panhandle of Florida around the town of Quincy and captured the thermal video below.

There are a lot more cast members in the show, but these are our favorites. Check out their respective media channels or continue to follow us on facebook.com/BigfootLunchClub or twitter @BigfootLC.

Finally, check out novelist Kirk Sigurdson's take on whether a 10 Million Dollar prize to prove bigfoot is even ethical.

Bigfoot Bounty's Todd Disotell is No Stranger to TV

Dr. Todd Disotell is media's go-to scientist for Bigfoot TV

Your iPhone is Now Your Thermal Camera

FLIR will have a device that converts your iPhone into a therm

Thanks to a heads up from Cliff Barackman and a repost from Jerry Hein we were alerted to an iPhone case that converts your iPhone into a FLIR thermal imager. We scoured the net to get all the details and reactions. read below.

This year FLIR has managed to shrink the same thermal imaging technology it sells to law enforcement and the military so that it fits inside an iPhone 5 case—letting us civilians share in the fun too.

Available sometime in the late spring or early summer later this year, the FLIR thermal imaging smartphone case will initially be available for the iPhone 5 and 5S and will cost $350. It features a built-in battery that will power the pair of cameras it relies on for up to two hours, and can also be used to charge your phone when you're not searching the forests for wild animals.

Right off the bat, I can think of two types of people who might be interested in a $350 case that turns the iPhone camera into a thermal imaging camera: ghost hunters and home inspectors. And if you’re a home inspector who moonlights as a ghost hunter, well here’s your next purchase.

While big-boy thermal imaging cameras can cost thousands, FLIR has shrewdly concluded that maybe not everybody has deep pockets and maybe having a pocketable thermal imaging camera with you at all times would be kind of cool.

The FLIR One case leverages a special app to grab heat signatures and detect temperatures, and what you see on the screen can be captured as photos and video just like you’re using the iPhone’s built-in camera app.

The case itself doesn’t add too, too much bulk considering the functionality it adds, and it doubles as a backup battery if your iPhone battery runs low. A FLIR rep told me the battery pack will last four hours for powering the thermal camera, or you can re-route the power to your iPhone instead.

The FLIR ONE iPhone case significantly ups the imaging powers of your iPhone 5 or 5s, making it into a thermal imaging camera that lets you see heat signatures from either live people and animals from up to 100 meters away, or from environmental sources including heating ducts, wall gaps and more.

Most of FLIR’s products to date are aimed at hunters and professionals, but this iPhone case brings an affordable smartphone-based thermal camera to the masses for the first time, the company told me at CES. The FLIR is $350, which might seem steep for a case with a built-in camera, but it’s actually around $750 cheaper than their least expensive standalone model currently available, and it provides an easy-to-use interface that anyone could quickly learn.

The app for the FLIR ONE offers numerous modes that interpret thermal data differently, with some showing many degrees of temperature, and others more clearly showing more or less binary differences between extreme heat, average temperature and extreme cold. Amazingly, it also picks up residual heat, like that left by a foot on a carpet for quite a while after a person was there.

The new iPhone case is called the Flir One and it is designed for the iPhone 5 or 5S. With the case attached to the smartphone, the iPhone becomes a thermal imaging camera. The Flir One case allows you to see the heat signatures of people and animals from up to 100 meters away.

The camera will also show heat from things inside walls like heat ducts and gaps in a wall. The Flir One case is $350 making it much cheaper than the next cheapest thermal camera on the market. The camera sounds like some sort of tool out of science fiction.

It is said to be capable of picking up the heat left behind by a person on the floor after they walk by. Potential uses for the Flir One case include finding thermal leaks in your home or water leaks behind walls among other things. I could see this device being useful for hunters as well.

HopsSquatch is kicking off this year at a new location so we can help celebrate the release of Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot Barley wine at The White Owl Social Club. Here's some info from the White Owl:
The annual release of Sierra Nevada's classic Bigfoot Barleywine is upon us, and The White Owl Social Club wants to kick off its release the right way. More than simply a 2014 Bigfoot release party, the White Owl has taken the theme to the next level by inviting Bigfoot investigators to give presentations on Bigfoot studies, theories, history, and background information, all from true experts. Beer lovers will be happy to know that there will be even more special beers and vintages on tap for this very unique event on Thursday, January 16th.

Beer Lineup:
SIERRA NEVADA 2014 BIGFOOT BARLEYWINE

Special Guests:

Guy Edwards of the local group Bigfoot Lunch Club, which hosts a monthly “Bigfoot and beer” meeting called HopsSquatch. Guy Edwards will give us a short video presentation detailing the various forms of Bigfoot.

Our next guest will be acclaimed Bigfoot analyst Rhettman A. Mullis, Jr., (MS, PhD-ABD, CAF, MHP). Mullis is best known as a spokesperson and founder of the Washington-based group Bigfootology, which comprises a team of scientists who analyze Bigfoot phenomena and evidence, as well as advise in and conduct field research. Mullis is also a well known frequent guest on the wildly popular talk radio show “Coast To Coast AM”, a long running and nationally syndicated (1190 AM in Portland, OR every night at 10:00pm) program for all things paranormal. Mullis is taking his personal time to drive down here from Bellevue, Washington on a weeknight to speak at this event.

Unscientific Anthropology and Special Needs Bigfoot

Did Anthropology get giganto wrong and why do some bigfoots get seen?
"Giganto fossils become huge orangs in anthropological fantasies these days" --Kirk Sigurdson on Anthropologist being unscientific

"Although [comparing a sasquatch face to downs-syndrome] makes some people's "politically incorrect" radar go off, it's worth considering from a purely scientific standpoint." --Kirk Sigurdson being scientific

In back-to-back posts Kirk Sigurdson continues his no-apology critical approach to--well, everything. In a new post out today he pushes back against the scientific establishment and challenges what he believes are assumptions. Read an excerpt below:

Giganto fossils become huge orangs in anthropological fantasies these days, which are not very scientific, IMO. Why? They leap to conclusions as fast as their 19th Century brethren attributed human faces to apes in their illustrations and "scholarly" musings.

Unscientific wish-fulfillment [pictured left]: there just isn't enough data to support the conclusion that a giganto looked like this. It's as rash as supposing that gigantos still exist today in the form of bigfoots.

Personally, I am intrigued by the latter hypothesis, but I realize that there simply isn't enough cold hard data to effectively support such a conclusion with any degree of scientific certainty. I find it hypocritical that anthropologists can be so thorough in some ways, and so flippant in others.

Oh well, nobody's perfect, but when the whole field of anthropology gets behind such a preposterous conclusion (that Gigantos are basically overgrown orangs) then I have to reserve a certain amount of suspicion for those at the top that are responsible for pushing such a notion so hard and so deep into the minds of the general public, as well as allegedly "well-educated" Ph.D's.
Click to following link to read the rest Kirk's Gigantopithicus post.

I think, to be fair, anthropologist have made no conclusions. The jury is still out. Anthropologist admit that they are even uncertain about the locomotion. Without a pelvic or leg fossils, it is very possible that giganto is strictly a quadraped walking around on all fours. A bipedal giant orang giganto is a minority view.

In Kirk's other post he takes note that the description of Sasquatch faces have been compared to the same features as down-syndrome.
I've heard the comparison between bigfoot faces and human "Down syndrome-like" faces in connection with some very impressive encounters where the witness was really able to observe the bigfoot's facial structure.

Although this comparison makes some people's "politically incorrect" radar go off, it's worth considering from a purely scientific standpoint.

Down syndrome (DS) people do have different chromosome patterns than standard homo sapien sapiens. Perhaps it is closer to the standard sasquatch chromosome orientation? One thing is certain: Downs cases look alike, and the more acute the incidence of this disorder, the more exaggerated facial features become.
