BLC artist, Guy Edwards, doing a liberal interpretation of the Provo Canyon Bigfoot |
First, we want to say there simply is not enough visual information in the Provo Canyon Bigfoot video to make a definitive determination. With that said, initially we were certain that foliage in the foreground was creating the negative space defining the Bigfoot's left arm.
A perfect example of how negative space can define an object is a water colored white picket fence painting. Since the canvas is already white, you do not paint the fence, you paint around the fence, you paint what is called the negative space. (see image below)
Do not paint the fence, paint the space around the fence--so Zen. |
Until we saw the stabilized slo-mo version of this video we were not able to conclude if the foliage was creating the negative space or no. Our conclusion is, bigfoot or not, that gap between body and "arm" is real. We recommend going full screen with the video and the quality turned up to 1080pHD.
We always felt like the reaction of the videographers/hikers were genuine which we think was the second component of this video being compelling We reached out to BeardCard, the video uploader, to ask a few more questions, including permission to stabilize his video. We have not heard back from him and offered to give him the stabilized version for his own YouTube Channel. We are hoping, since this is for educational purposes and not commercial, he will not mind us posting the stabilized version here.
Oh and here is the frame and the artistic rendition side-by-side.

Whatever stance the Facebook finding bigfoot group takes, I will take the opposite. Have you guys been to Provo Canyon? It's as crowded as any place I have been. It's not remote, or hidden, or in the middle of nowhere. It's were everyone from Provo and BYU go to hang out. I find it hard to believe it's not a just returned Mormon missionary doing a creative and lame proposal to his girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteI am familiar with Provo Canyon. If Provo Canyon is as crowded as any place you've ever been then you don't get to the city very often. I know exactly where these guys were camping. There is a great deal of area in the canyon where you could go for miles and never be detected.
DeleteI don't know what they saw. I simply know that all of there reactions thus far show folks that were scared.
This is ridiculous. For 40 years, they've been called reclusive forest dwellers shunning human civilization, but suddenly--post-Moneymaker, I note--they are said to be skirting the boundaries of large cities. Provo has 115,000 people. They don't live in Rhode Island, either, I assure you.
DeleteCuz you know better, right? You know all about Rhode Island because ... because you've seen it on a map of the U.S. a few times.
DeleteYou know all about the sightings in Rhode Island too, even better than the witnesses themselves ... because you've seen where Rhode Island is on the map. Who could argue with someone as informed as you.
People have been reporting sasquatches within 20 miles of certain big cities for many years.
You're nothing but a dweebish dipstick who doesn't know what he's talking about. Go find another sandbox.
Hmmm, I'm struck by the similarities between your interpretation and the Crook photo of "BF" standing in the water. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HRiGgliTOzc/TEGM1JTxCNI/AAAAAAAACyA/tl5OXURK_Ew/s1600/Crook+Bigfoot+Fake.jpg I know the Crook photo's been labeled a fake, and I'm not suggesting otherwise, but I can't help but be reminded of the photo in this case.
ReplyDeleteGuys, I live in Utah and the Mormons here are the biggest hoaxers there are. It's a challenge to them. Beard Card is obviously a Mormon, since you have to have a special card at BYU to have a beard.
ReplyDeleteEnuff said.
Easy Anonymous, no need to get nasty.
DeleteIn reference to the enhanced video, it certainly shows greater details. Thanks for the rendition Mr. Edwards, pretty cool!
Since Mormons are the biggest hoaxers (your implication is all Mormons) are Catholics the biggest child abusers? Are Jews the cheapest people in the world? Are non Mormons in Utah a bunch of underachieving losers? The religion of these guys means nothing. It could be anyone, Mormon or non Mormon who is involved.
DeleteAlleging a fondness for pranks is not "nasty," nor is it on the same level as the hateful stereotypes Anonymous is throwing out--has anyone even heard it before? gjdavis is oversensitive. When somebody starts talking about polygamy or something still more hurtful, we'll let you know.
DeleteMy aunt and uncle are members of the Mormon Church. I've lived with Mormons all my life. They are well-known hoaxers. Saying they're fraudulent might be better, as hoaxer has less stigma. Utah has the highest rate of MLM and affinity fraud of any state.
DeleteYou didn't color in the two thick legs which are clearly visible (follow the line of the torso down to the ground) ?
ReplyDeleteYour right. I should do a full body version.
DeleteGuy, I'm an artist, too, and my experience tells me that artists are not qualified to authenticate this. Somebody could have easily painted the entire video, which is very short, frame-by-frame, just as you have done with a single still. It's digital, and there is no negative. It is also too jumpy and soft around the edges to look real to me, but never mind that. The concept of negative space doesn't explain anything. There is zero detail. Posting your interpretation of an amorphous shape as the lead image to two items only adds to the fictivity you wish to distract from.
DeleteI think "Bigfoot" is walking away from the camera, so the "left arm" is actually the right.
ReplyDeleteI also think this critter resembles the Cook photo-which I've never been convinced is a fake. People saying it's fake is not the same as saying why. I've never heard/read good reasons WHY it's a fake. Now, I'm not saying it is real, but I've always been fascinated by it.
I'm sorry but I cannot believe this is anything more than a typical American Black Bear.
ReplyDeleteHe/she is hunched a bit when standing and the angle gives the fore paw apparent length. The head is flatter than a bigfoot's and the nose is tan. If you slow the video you can see it's nose going into place. that's not foliage in front of the nose.
Check the still on your page. There is no separation of legs like a biped would have when standing. Stand up yourself and you'll see what I mean.
The size can be as much as seven feet on a large bear. They grow a bit bigger but not much. Seeing it uphill gives the illusion that it is taller than it actually is anyhow.
The motion made when turning and standing to investigate the hikers is a typical bear motion. Black bears will stand for several minutes when they're curious.
The hikers may not have known it was a bear but that is pretty hard to mistake.
I search for Bigfoot and know bears. www.bigfoottracks.us. I'm not plugging my site cause i'm on a break of undetermined length. I put it here to show I do search for Bigfoot and I do know what I am talking about. I've seen many bears in the woods and bears are the most common omnivore around Provo Canyon.
ReplyDeleteI forgot. you can also see the bear's ear.
DeleteThank you. Unlike Bigfoot, they also have a reputation for raiding human settlements for food. They frequently come into our garage to eat our garbage.
DeleteI love the explanation of the Jacobs Creature. Clearly shows a very sick bear with mange. Um hm. Yea.
ReplyDeletesorry robbie but that is NOT a sick bear..
DeleteI think the 6 ft brother of BeardCard got caught with his pants down.
ReplyDeletewell I'm on the fence about B/F always have been, but he's either real or thats a person in a really good costume, but is not a bear I've seen lots of bears stand from an all four position and it ain't like that nor do they twist and turn while standing as you can clearly see the one leg twist. And even the largest of bears solid bears from front to back when standing would appear narrow in the upper torso and widen toward the bottom and you can see a defined open space between the legs if you watch the video a few times.Skeptical about bigfoot I am but that is not a bear, and if it is someone in a costume it would wise to ditch the costume and stay out of the woods with a ten million$$$$$ bounty on his head he might meet the buisness end of a 300mag it huntin season ya know.
ReplyDeleteI am a professional illustrator with much experience observing photo/film reference in order to create imagery that satisfies my clients. I have watched the 'Provo Canyon" footage multiple times at full screen and by 'double-tapping' the pause/play button to advance the footage a split-second at a time. There is no question about it, -foliage in the foreground is what gives the illusion of space between the alleged 'left arm' and the 'torso'. Anyone can see this clearly if they advance the footage second-by-second at full screen. The actual limb with leaves -that creates the illusion of background space-is clearly visible during the whole sequence and can be followed with the viewer's eyes well before the figure stands up. Maybe it is a sasquatch, but that is NOT background space that appears to define a 'left arm'. Period.
ReplyDeleteIn short, he professionally watches moving images very closely, in order to draw still pictures from them. Next!
DeleteYou're almost half-right. But you're mostly wrong and showcasing your ignorance. What's wrong?, ..you don't know how to advance a video a second at a time? Obviously you have difficulty with the most basic motor-skills. You're an idiot, and anyone who advances the video a second at a time will clearly see the foliage in the foreground.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletefrom the second 22 you can see the face of the "creature" or "human disguise" then gets up and walks back toward the camera.
ReplyDeleteI agree i think is a bear. it is clearly rummaging in an ants nest or in a rotten log for grubs, then when it senses something odd it stands up, as bears do, to look. typical, nothing special. bear pure and simple.
ReplyDeleteIt's a person. You can see the guy's hat brim and a hood on his coat in the first few seconds of the vid.
ReplyDeleteMoron in a monkey suit!
ReplyDelete... or possibly a black bear which stood upright to get a better look at the hoaxer holding the camera ...
ReplyDeleteThe problem I have with this video is that black bears can and do stand up on hind legs to get a better view of something that piques their interest. It could be bear or Bigfoot.
ReplyDeleteI just moved to Utah and at some point I will head down there and check it out!
