NY Dept of Environmental Conservation: Bigfoot is a Myth

At one point it seemed that the New York Department of Environmental Conservation
was protecting Bigfoot, now it is shattered
“This mythical animal (bigfoot) does not exist in nature or otherwise" -- Chief Wildlife Biologist, Gordon R. Batcheller

In October 2012 we posted an article titled, "NY Dept of Environmental Conservation: Do Not Harm Bigfoot", in that article we announced how the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NY DEC) used loose language to "protect" Bigfoot. Essentially shielding any harm to Bigfoot in New York State. Apparently that loose language was too loose for Peter Wiemer of the Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo.

Upon the announcement of the $10 million dollar Bigfoot bounty and unsatisfied with his first correspondence with the NY DEC, Mr. Wiemer, on October 26th, 2012 wrote a second letter requesting explicit language to protect Bigfoots from being harmed.

This forced NY DEC's hand, they gave Mr. Wiemer explicit language, although not in the direction he requested. In the response dated November 6th, 2012 by Chief Wildlife Biologist, Gordon R. Batcheller, stated, “This mythical animal does not exist in nature or otherwise... However, the simple truth of the matter is that there is no such animal anywhere in the World. I am sorry to disappoint you. However, no program or action in relation to mythical animals is warranted”.

So now we have gone from NY DEC using loose language to, perhaps, protect Bigfoot, to using explicit language to marginalize Bigfoot. See visual aide below.

From this to that

If you want to read the reply letter from the NY DEC calling Bigfoot a myth, it is directly below.

Dear Mr. Weimer,
Commissioner Martens asked me to reply to your letter concerning the protection of an animal known to some as “Bigfoot” or “Sasquatch.”
This mythical animal does not exist in nature or otherwise. I understand, however, that some well organized hoaxes or pranks have occurred, leading some people to believe that such an animal does live.
However, the simple truth of the matter is that there is no such animal anywhere in the World.
I am sorry to disappoint you.  However, no program or action in relation to mythical animals is warranted.
On the other hand, New York State has a great richness of naturally occurring wildlife, and we work hard to ensure that these species are managed appropriately, including highly regulated hunting and trapping opportunities.  We also work hard to restore and protect rare species.  I wish you the best as you enjoy New York’s abundant wildlife resources.
   Thank you for writing us.
Sincerely,
Gordon R. Batcheller
Chief Wildlife Biologist

Kentish Apeman a/k/a The British Bigfoot Returns after 70 Years

The Kentish Apeman a/k/a The British Bigfoot triggers a 70 year-old memory

News from Britain has been reporting a return of a Bigfoot-like cryptid. Locals call it the Kentish Apeman, and have recently spotted it in Tunbridge Wells Common. This is the exact place it was spotted 70 years ago.

The beast is describes as hairy, eight-foot tall, with red demonic eyes.

According to the paper, Tunbridge Wells People, "Other sightings have claimed the monster has also been on the prowl in Darftord and Blue Bell Hill, near Maidstone". Early this year we reported on another alleged British Bigfoot trackway find in Cotswolds

Read the excerpt from the Kent News below:
The most recent sighting is believed to have taken place last month on Tunbridge Wells Common – the 200-acre wooded site which sits in the centre of the town and is one of its most picturesque features.

But after it was reported, it jogged the memory of another local resident who went online to reveal how it tallied closely with a story he had heard years ago.

The author, who billed themselves as Graham S from the town, revealed how when he was working as a painter in the house of an elderly lady, she regaled him with a tale of coming face to face with the apeman on the Common during World War Two.

The post read: “One particular day she went to the Common with her husband and was sitting on a bench when they became aware of a shuffling noise behind them.

“Upon turning around both her husband and herself saw what she described as a tall, hairy ape like creature with eyes that were burning a reddish colour and it was moving towards them at a slow pace. They observed this creature for some time until they became afraid and they both fled – terrified.

“She went on to say that they told the police and members of their family, thinking that a gorilla had escaped from a zoo, but were laughed at and were not believed.”

Doubtful News
Even our favorite skeptic at Doubtful News has weighed in on the whole idea of Bigfoot living on an island like the U.K. We assume it's preposterous to her for multiple reasons, but we think she is calling out that the U.K is an island.

"Another point in the piece is that apemen are sighted in the U.K. Frankly, it’s a preposterous idea. It’s SO preposterous that investigators, like Arnold who is quoted, have entertained that the explanation is not of an actual animal but of a supernatural thing." --Doubtful News

Doubtful News is responding to Neil Arnold, a paranormal expert from Rochester. The Kent News article further describes Mr. Arnolds position, "[he] doesn't believe the apeman to be a flesh and blood 'monster', but a paranormal figure..."

Sasquatch Spokesman for Cousins Submarine Sandwhiches

Cousins Sub's New Spokeperson. SpokeSquatch?

"Sasquatch came out of nowhere and asked for a sub – just like that. It was really weird.  But the camera was rolling and we recorded it, so we decided to put him in the commercial." -- Justin McCoy, vice president of marketing for Cousins Subs

Sasquatch, it seems peddles more than beef jerky anymore. Besides jerky, we have seen Sasquatch sell Hyundais in Canada and Software for Microsoft, now he's pitching sub sandwiches  Maybe we are partial, but in our mind, putting a Bigfoot in commercial is a win-win endeavor. Perhaps Bigfoot is the perfect muse for wit and humor. Most bigfooters we know are smart and quick to laugh (until you question their evidence).

So is it a good idea to have Sasquatch as your spokesperson? We thinks so. Watch the newest batch of commercials from Cousins Subs

If you are interested in the campaign yourself you can read an interview with Cousins Sub's VP of marketing at the restaurant trade magazine, QSR.
