Dead Central's Exclusive with Exists Director Eduardo Sanchez

Poster for the found footage Exists movie

Exist is described as, “Five friends on a camping weekend in the remote woods of East Texas struggle to survive against a legendary predator that is stronger, smarter, and more terrifying than anything they would have ever believed exists.”

Since 2011 we have been following the latest latest bigfoot news regarding this found footage film. Initially we announced the Exists cast and the actor inside the Bigfoot costume, followed by Sanchez explaining the Exists trilogy, some Exists production footage and finished off with a great interview with with Sanchez prior to the screening at the SXSW 2014 film festival.

Just in time to promote the new DVD + Digital release of Exists, Eduardo Sanchez talks with Dead Central about some of his thoughts behind the movie. below are a few of our favorite excerpts.

Mr. Sanchez talks about showing the bigfoot:
“This is a monster movie, and for a monster movie to work, you need to show the monster. Even Jaws, which I think is one of the best monster movies ever made… everybody always talks about how you slowly reveal the shark, but by the end of Jaws, Spielberg showed the shark, man. I came out of that theater thinking to myself, ‘Man, I just saw a great white battle these guys!’ That’s what I wanted to do with Bigfoot. There have been a lot of Bigfoot movies before mine, but few of them have really convincing creatures. In fact, some of them don’t really show the creature at all. When you don’t show the creature, you’re kind of cheating the audience out of seeing what they’re there to see. I’m there to see the monster! To see how it moves! To see the monster action! I’ve never been 100% satisfied with anything that I’ve ever seen.”
...and about the look of the bigfoot:
“I’ve been studying the idea of how to make this film since I was a kid, ya know? I remember watching ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’ and always critiquing that suit! The feet were all wrong! Even as a kid I was like, ‘Why did they make the feet like that? It looks like he’s wearing flesh shoes!’ So from a very early age I was trying to figure out how to do this, and I remember seeing Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan. Rick Baker did the ape effects for that film, and I’ve always used that as an example of how to do it right. When you look at those apes… man, they look really authentic. It’s not just the suit though; it’s the way that they’re lit, the way that they’re shot, etc. When it came time to make Exists, I knew what I wanted and, more importantly, what I didn’t want. When I saw the suit and especially when I saw Brian [Steele] in the suit, even as someone who helped design the look of the creature, I was blown away. It totally worked. This didn’t look like a human in a suit. This looked like a creature. From there it was all a matter of saying, ‘Okay, what’s the best way to show this off but not completely over-expose it?”

Finding Bigfoot Producer Talks about 7th Season as Filming Begins in South Carolina

Finding Bigfoot Cast Begins Filming for Season 7 in South Carolina

“During the seventh season, we’re trying to go to places we haven’t gotten a chance to go to before,” --Joe James; Finding Bigfoot Producer

Filming for the seventh season of Animal Planet's Finding Bigfoot begins in South Carolina. The Aiken Standard reports, "During the filming of a town-hall meeting segment for a future episode that will focus on the Palmetto State, 14 people stood up in the ballroom of the Aiken County Historical Museum and talked about their strange experiences."

The article titled. "‘Finding Bigfoot’ crew hears tales of Sasquatch sightings in S.C." continues to quote Finding Bigfoot producer, Joe James as he talks about what to expect in season seven and why they picked Aiken County, South Carolina:
“Our sixth season is airing now, and we’re filming our seventh season,” said Producer Joe James. “This episode could air later this year, but it’s up to Animal Planet when that will happen.”

The episode will be the first based in South Carolina for “Finding Bigfoot.”

“During the seventh season, we’re trying to go to places we haven’t gotten a chance to go to before,” James said. “We decided to film in Aiken because of its central location. We have witnesses from northern counties to the west, and we have witnesses from the Charleston area.”

Russian Yeti Video from the Snowy Woods of the Adygeya Republic

"The creature was big, looking like a bear, but not a bear." --Eyewitness Ludmila Hristoforova speaking to a TV station

There are several news sources reporting the Russian yeti in the Snowy Woods video. In a nutshell, it all began when the local rescue service received several calls regarding Yeti sightings in the Adygeya Republic, prompting a TV news report and finally an investigative team of friends capturing the bigfoot-like creature on film.

We captured the best snippets from around the web and from around the world. The DailyMail had this nice bullet list:
  • The footage shows a figure covered in hair emerging from an area of trees
  • 'Bear-like' creature was on camera for just seconds before disappearing
  • Creature was spotted in the Adygeya Republic in south-western Russia
  • The Russian team believe they have captured footage of the elusive Yeti
  • Others question its authenticity and say it was a stunt to bring in tourism

The Express has a nice set of quotes from the witnesses who saw the dark figure walking through the snow.
Ludmila Hristoforova, who claims to have seen a yeti figure, said: "The creature was big, looking like a bear, but not a bear. From the door we've seen something big and shaggy."

Local homeowner Andrei Kazarian added: "I heard footsteps and we were pretty sure there was no one else around because we knew for sure everyone else was inside the house.

"Although we didn't see anyone we saw its huge footprints. They were 5 to 6 centimetres deep and couldn't come from a human foot.

"We took a plaster cast of them and we estimate that it probably would have taken about 200 kilos to press the snow down that much."

The Mirror has a nice narrative from the investigators point of view as well as some reporting on the evidence.
The local team then set off to investigate, and as they headed off into the forest said they were stunned when they heard the crunching of snow, and managed to grab footage of a hairy creature as it emerged from the trees.

After taking a plaster cast of the alleged footprint, the group have now handed their findings to local scientists for analysis.
