Bigfoot and other Pongidae Skeletons

New Illustration for you Bigfoot Lunch Clubbers. As most primatoligist and anthropologist know, we humans share a classification called Homindae which includes Pongidae (the three/four other great apes; Gorillas, Orangutans, and Chimps/Bonabos).

Well, obviously BF would fit into that class as well. Above are the skeletons of the homidae/pongidae family, notice different porportions such as a a gorillas wider torso, orangutans longer slimmer build, and the chimps thicker, stockier leg bones. The BF skeleton is a blend of a Gigantopithecus reference and the Patterson film.

New Harvey Pratt Sketches and C2C Interview

Filling in for George Knapp on February 28th, Ian Punnett was joined on Coast to Coast AM, for the latter half of the program, by Bigfoot researcher David Paulides and forensic artist Harvey Pratt for a discussion on the relationship between Native American cultures and Bigfoot as well as their work using eyewitness testimony to craft forensic sketches of the creature. Paulides revealed that they have uncovered a number of tales of Bigfoot abducting humans. He shared one story, from around the 1940's or 50's, of a girl from the city who was visiting her family in a rural part of California. She went off into the woods to pick berries and disappeared. A month later, she reemerged and claimed she'd been "kidnapped by the hairy man." Pratt concurred with the pervasiveness of these types of stories, saying that he's heard similar tales "even closer to our time frame."

Regarding their work turning sightings into sketches, Pratt stressed that he serves as a forensic artist as opposed to an illustrator and that all of his drawings are done with the witnesses present and are based solely on their testimony. "We go through a great deal of dialogue," Pratt said, with the goal of capturing the sighting from all angles, including the face as well as the back and shoulders. Despite the ongoing debate in the cryptozoology community over whether the creature is ape-like or human-like, Paulides marveled that "we have yet to draw anything close to an ape." Another trend that they have noticed is that the hair color of the Bigfoot seems to coincide with its age, similar to how a human's hair changes over time. For instance, all of the reported golden-colored Bigfoot are smaller and underdeveloped while the grey haired ones are older and frail-looking creatures.

BfRLC Trading Card 002

Yes, yes. Its True. The second installment of the BfRLC Trading cards. It is important to note Ivan Sanderson is responsible for much more than what he contributed to Crytozoology, and definitely more than can be described on a trading card in 300 words or less. As a self-defined fortean, he introduced and help categorize countless phenomena.

BfRLC Trading Cards Return

We have been getting tons of email asking about the BfRLC Trading Cards. Well, after deeper research, the artist Guy Edwards and I realized we really need to make sure we get card number one right. The trading cards needed to reflect Bigfoot research in a more respectful and honorable way. Although Roger Patterson is probably most well known, we felt that he alone was not reflective of the community or spirit of Bigfoot research. In fact no one alone would be the perfect candidate, but Guy and I felt we picked the best.

Ladies and gentlemen! I present the newest BfRLC Trading Card... Charles Hoy Fort. This man inspired the people who inspired the people of Bigfoot research. Now strictly speaking Charles Hoyt was no Bigfoot Researcher, in fact his contribution is less scientific and more philosophic. He was a collector of unexplained documented phenomena , keeping notes and clippings by the thousands in hundreds and hundreds of Shoe boxes. In his collection he probably had enough fodder to expand X-files like they did with Law and Order and CSI. (X-files:Northwest Starring Epic Gilgamesh does have a ring to it. Chris Carter you out there?!)

Anyway before I get to far off the point. Our first card honors Charles Fort, you may recognize his last name as a prefix for unexplained phenomena: Fortean, as in The Fortean Times. Mr Fort, BfRLC Salute you for your trailblazing ideas, fueled by your curiosity and courage to validate the exploration of those things Science can not yet explain.

BfRLC Trading Cards Debut

Collect them all. These 4x6 in. BfRLC trading cards will debut every Friday until I can no longer think of new things to make a card for. The design and Illustration is once again thanks to our good friend Guy Edwards.

I plan on starting with famous researchers, Krantz, Green, Coleman and so forth, then famous Bigfoot characters like Patti and Clubfoot. Also I plan on famous Bigfoot locations like Bluff Creek,and Ape Caves.

So stay tuned every Friday for a new card, download it print it out, and hang it on your wall. Feel free to suggest new ideas and let's see how many of these we can do together. I believe next week we are going to post BfRLC Trading Card #002 "Dr. Bernard Heuvelmans" the father of Cryptozoology.

ARTIST CAPTURES BIGFOOT

In 1967, amateur filmmakers Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin shot a grainy, 53-second film of an "unidentified" shaggy, lumbering figure making his big-footed way across a dry lake bed of Bluff Creek, Calif.

"This footage has been viewed by some as documentary proof of the elusive creature," says multi-media artist Cameron Gainer. "For others, the film is considered complete fiction -- an elaborately constructed hoax.

"The 352nd frame of this film is widely regarded as the iconic image of Bigfoot," the artist said.

It is this iconic image that has so captured Gainer's imagination, so much so that he has recreated the creature/imposter's pose as a three-dimensional sculpture.

"Forest Through the Trees" -- a multi-media structure, photo-op prop for curiosity seekers and a screening of the original footage at The Fabric Workshop and Museum -- invites viewers to interact with the work.

"Forest" is the seventh in a new exhibition series featuring site-specific works by contemporary artists at the museum, 1222 Arch St., Philadelphia.

BFRLC GETS AN XMAS PRESENT!

Merry Christmas!!! This blog and the illustration above is a present to ourselves. This is our first post! This website will catalog bi-weekly meetings between myself and co-founder Joel Mandel. That's us above in the secret handshake--every club needs a secret handshake, even a Bigfoot Researcher's Lunch Club.

Working at the corporate headquarters of a major apparel manufacturer, we see parallels to our days at the office and the hit NBC TV show, "The Office."

In one episode called "Branch Wars" Pam, Oscar and Toby have formed a very exclusive club that meets once a month called The Finer Things Club.  They discuss high art, eat sushi, wear upscale clothes, etc.  It is very exclusive and they won't allow any new members.

Same idea here, Joel and I will meet bi-weekly discussing Bigfoot at different vegetarian buffets in Portland, Oregon. Although we will probably be more inclusive.

Between meetings we plan on bringing you Bigfoot news, research and ideas to consider. If we are lucky, we may actually hit the woods and get some field research done.
