Primate Breeder: Bigfoot — the Legend Analyzed

Lake Oroville Visitor Center will host a presentation tomorrow night (June 13th, 2012) starting at 7 pm. Dr. Brown has been speaking at this engagement since 2006 and has returned every two years with a slightly different presentation. 

Dr. Ron Brown received his Doctorate in Zoology from East Africa, where he lived during the 1980s. He was the co-operator of a breeding facility for Native African animals in South Africa. Dr. Brown wrote his first paper on Bigfoot at U.C. Berkeley in 1972; a non-scientific critique of the 1967 Patterson Film and has been a contributing author for books on Bigfoot. He has participated in numerous field studies and investigations and is affiliated with the only academically qualified field investigatory team he’s aware of on Bigfoot.

Dr. Brown presented a very similar presentation in 2008 that included a detailed history of Bigfoot sightings dating back to the 1800s’ plus analysis of both the Paterson and Redwoods films. He also brought along several track castings, a knuckle print, and a large hind-quarters casting.

The speaker’s long history of studying and breeding large primates gives him a very unique perspective on the Bigfoot phenomena, so this should be a very informative and entertaining presentation.

Bring family and friends, a picnic dinner, and dine on the Visitor Center’s shaded patio before the program begins. The Visitor Center remains open after 5 p.m. on specified Summer Speaker Series Wednesday evenings only during the summer months.

Sasquatch researchers resolved to finding elusive creature

"Don't go anywhere without your camera," Thomas Steenburg advised during Sasquatch Days in Harrison this weekend. He's been hunting the elusive creature, and its cousin Big Foot, for more than three decades.

Steenburg and Bill Miller were on hand at Harrison Memorial Hall to discuss their research with the public, as part of the resurrected festival.

Both have had close encounters with what could be a Sasquatch, they maintain. And through years of pouring over photos, videos and stories, as well as embarking on hunting expeditions has only steeled their resolve that the Sasquatch is out there — somewhere.

There have been sightings in Harrison, even very recently, on both sides of the lake.

Miller actually had his brush with the captivating creature in Minnesota in 1980, on a fishing trip.

"A bi-ped ran right past us," he said. "For many years I didn't think nothin' of it."

But he always remembered the encounter, and it became a favourite story of family folklore — not unlike the re-telling of Sasquatch encounters in First Nation history locally.

It wasn't until 1998 that he started to get serious about the Sasquatch, when he came to a convention in Harrison and met Steenburg and John Green, Harrison's very own Sasquatch expert.

"I met all these people who were really serious about it," he said.

Now the two run Sasquatch Country Adventures, along with Barry Blount, conducting tours while keeping an eagle eye open for more sightings. Miller and Steenburg participated in a documentary called Bigfoot's Reflection, and both men have been featured in many newspaper stories and other media.

Sasquatch Days in Harrison Hot Springs this weekend was a perfect opportunity for the experts to provide more information to the public. The festival was resurrected after being in hiatus for about 70 years.

We are going to take you back in time in light of a new video that surfaced today. Back in July of 2008 we broke the news of a Clayton County police officer (Matthew Whitton) and a former correctional officer (Rick Dyer) who had a frozen Bigfoot in a freezer. 19 days later the Bigfoot news went international after  Tom Biscardi got involved and wrote an official press release.

The whirlwind media circus culminated to a Press Conference covered live by CNN where Biscardi promised DNA evidence based on research by Curt Nelson from the University of Minnesota. Curt Nelson, as some may remember, also did the DNA research on the MonsterQuest episode where a Bigfoot stepped on some nails.
