Bigfoot Hunters Dallas and Wayne are back

A screen shot of the old Dallas & Wayne website

"Despite setbacks over the past year, Dallas and Wayne continue their research, and we've continued to film their adventures." -- Series Creator/Producer Andrew Dodson

You can read about the previous adventures of Dallas and Wayne. They gained notoriety mostly from the award winning documentary, Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie. You may have even watched the movie with us, as we were at the Portland screening of the movie. The movie is decribed below:
Dallas Gilbert and Wayne Burton, two real-life Bigfoot researchers starring as themselves in a semi-fictional story providing a look into the trials and triumphs of life in the Apalacian foot hiils. Through these two amateur BF researchers from southern Ohio, we see how the power of a dream can define a friendship and provide hope and a meaning that transcends the harsh realities of life in a dying steel town.
After several failed attempts to attract national attention and convince the world Bigfoot exist, Dallas catches a lucky break. He pursuades a high-profile Bigfoot researcher [Tom Biscardi] to stop in Portsmouth and see check out the research accumulated by Dallas and Wayne. As the movie accelerates ever closer towards the realization of their mutual dream, we are reminded how fragile this shared hope truly is.
The movie turned into a TV series titled Dallas & Wayne: The Bigfoot Hunters. You can watch video of the season two premier episode below.

Bigfoot Documentary Screening Includes Q&A with Experts

The Hollywood Theatre is a local Portland, Oregon historical landmark and an organization whose mission is to entertain, inspire, educate and connect the community through the art of film.

We are proud to participate in an event that includes the screening of "Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie". After the screening, there will be a panel of Bigfoot Experts; Thom Powell author of "The Locals" and "Shady Neighbors" and Guy Edwards the very editor of Bigfoot Lunch Club. And yes, after four years of publishing this blog, I have finally been elevated from the title of enthusiast to expert (Please no comments trying to take away my new title).

As you hardcore fans may remember, initially we did a post on the documentary, "Not your Typical Bigfoot Movie" back in 2008 and continued to cover them two years later after they launched their website and won tons of awards.

We even followed Dallas and Wayne as their bromance continued to be documented on the small screen on a a local TV show.

We are also excited to announce the event will be moderated by Sarah Mirk (@sarahmirk) of The Portland Mercury, a weekly alternative paper in -- you guessed it, Portland. With her wit, humor and pulse on all things important, she fits right in with the beginning credits of the TV show Portlandia (embedded below). We would say at about the minute and 24 seconds mark.

Below is the official press release from Hollywood Theaters. If you are in the area support your local Bigfooters, Film Otrganizations and weekly alternative papers.

HOLLYWOOD THEATRE

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

HOLLYWOOD THEATRE AND OSCILLOSCOPE’S CIRCLE OF TRUST PRESENT: NOT YOUR TYPICAL BIGFOOT MOVIE

(Portland, OR), Sept. 16, 2011 – For one night only the Hollywood Theatre brings you “Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie,” followed by a special panel of local Bigfoot researchers and moderated by Sarah Mirk of the Mercury. The panel will feature Thom Powell, author of “The Shady Neighbors,” and Guy Edwards, founder and editor of the Bigfoot Lunch Club, and there could even be prizes for audience members!

Director Jay Delaney produced a short about Dallas and Wayne ten years ago, and became so engrossed he had to come back and make a feature. Through Dallas, Wayne, and their amateur Bigfoot research, Delaney explores and explodes the American Dream; the result is a film “masterful for the dignity it infuses into the duo’s lives” that offers new perspective on unusual passions. A compelling documentary about the trials and triumphs of life in the Appalachian foot hills, the documentary portrays the power of a dream to forge friendships that provide hope and meaning to transcend the harsh realities of a dying steel town. Oh, and Sasquatch, too.

“Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie” has received multiple awards, including Official Selection at SXSW Film Festival, the Independent Film Festival of Boston, and the Athens International Film Festival. The Hollywood Theatre screening will feature special guest experts, and some surprise elements as well!

Dallas and Wayne Bigfoot Bromance

Think MonsterQuest meets Dog the bounty Hunter. That is the concept for the reality show that will star Dallas Gilbert and Wayne Burton. These names may sound familiar if you watched the independent documentary titled Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie. We filed a post when it was first making its rounds in the indie circuit, and then again, when the director launched a website to promote the DVD.

Apparantly, there will be a red carpet celebration to launch the local television show that will also broadcast online.

On Sept. 11, Piscoti Productions will premiere its new reality television series, "Dallas and Wayne: The Bigfoot Hunters" at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts. The series follows Portsmouth residents Dallas Gilbert and Wayne Burton as they search for Bigfoot in southern Ohio....

Andy Dodson of Piscotti Productions described the show as "Dog the Bounty Hunter" meets "MonsterQuest."

"The show is about Dallas and Wayne and their quirky relationship, as opposed to actually finding Bigfoot. That's secondary to the humor that kind of takes place while they're out hunting and the stories that they tell," Dodson said.

Everyone has a Bigfoot. What’s your Bigfoot?

"A story of enduring friendship and epic dreams"
-Chicago Tribune

"A truly heart-warming slice of Americana like no other"
-Ain't It Cool News

"Subtle, human, and touching - not at all typical."
-Austin Chronicle

"Masterful for the dignity it infuses into the duo's lives"
-Metromix

Back in February 2008 we wrote a post about this little known Bigfoot Documentary that was more about Bigfooters than it was about Bigfoot. As you can see from the image and quotes above it has garnered critical acclaim and international attention.

This documentary has just launched a brand new promotional website.

The site and the movie is really about the pursuit. Its the pursuit we all share.

In it's first post the site begins with a plea to all Bigfooters:
"Everyone has a Bigfoot. What’s your Bigfoot?...In many ways, making a film about Bigfoot researchers is very similar to Bigfoot researchers trying to prove that Bigfoot exists. I believe we all have some kind of passion or dream, and it’s crucially important that we devote time to pursuing it. We will of course encounter obstacles, challenges, and hurdles. Sometimes those passions or dreams are ones the world might be used to, and other times they may be something more nontraditional, more outside of the norm. Regardless though, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, do us all a favor and pursue them. --Jay Delaney "

Check out the official Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie website, because they provide a whole host of ways to watch the movie including Netflix on-demand.

NOT YOUR TYPICAL BF MOVIE

This movie is making the rounds at indie film festival SxSW. It seems to be gaining a buzz according to a review by Eric Davis of Cinematical.

Standing in the picture above is Dallas Gilbert and Wayne Burton two real-life Bigfoot researchers starring as themselves in a semi-fictional story providing a look into the trials and triumphs of life in the Apalacian foot hiils.

He pursuades a high-profile Bigfoot researcher to stop in Portsmouth and see check out the research accumulated by Dallas and Wayne. As the movie accelerates ever closer towards the realization of their mutual dream, we are reminded how fragile this shared hope truly is.

Besides being a movie that does not exploit Bigfoot as a fearful monster, dangerous creature, or idiot in a suit. It really seems to tap into the culture of the BF community, this movie originally was to be a documentry with the two men escorting a film crew to 2005 Chattahoochee BF Conference in Tennesee. During post-production the idea for the fictional story evolved in order to reveal the vitality of the hope these two men shared, despite their failure to attain their goal.

I think Captain Kirk said it best while confirming and defending humans to Spock, "Sometimes for us humans, wanting is better than having."

Hence a perfect time to reflect on the BFR Lunch Clubber's motto "in pursuit of discovery". We Salute you Dallas and Wayne, as a matter of fact co-founder Goldteeth/PDXBigfoot is an OHIO Native.
