Sylvanic DotCom Circa May 2005

Yes the site is down, I don't know what Todd's plans with it are currently. It's temporary, but I don't know how temporary. -- Louise Standing (3/28/2011)

We were able to get a response from Louise Standing, Todd's younger sister, she also wanted to make it clear, "...I have nothing to do with Todd's research and am really involved in no way!"

We promised we would have the first version of Sylvanic.Com. This was launched back in May 2005.

Click the above image to see full size.

Gauging from the home page, you would guess the site is less about Todd and more about a mysterious place where people end up missing. A place called Sylvanic.

OPENING PARAGRAPH:
It is hard to believe in this day an age that there are many places left in the vast mountain ranges of North America that are left untouched by man. But there is. The name may have changed in the last century but the legend remains the same. Sylavnic, as it is now called by the natives that have know of its legends thousands of years before civilization enveloped this continent, is a well hidden canyon nestled deep within the depths of the rocky mountains. This website explores the mysteries and folklore that surround this enigmatic rivers pass that leads to an ancient valley. A large unbroken chain of mountains encircles this valley and it is said that the sacred pass is guarded by the shadows of the mountain. A group of 4 people went into this valley on a February weekend in 2005 to document as much information about Sylanic as they could. What they found was shocking...

THE MISSING MAN:

"Do you recognize this man? He may have gone missing in Sylvanic in 1936 along with two of his associates. This is a police composite drawing of what he would have looked like in 1936. He had a strong English accent and would have worked for the railroad in the early 1930’s or late 1920’s. His initials may have been J.P.G."

Todd Standing Jumps the Shark with Expedition 4

Photo "proof" of the Sylvanic Bigfoot provided by Todd Standing, below is an embedded video of which this still is from.

Jump The Shark (jŭmp thē shärk) idiom,
1.) A moment in the evolution of a television show, characterized by absurdity, when a particular show abandons its core premises and begins a decline in quality that is beyond recovery.
2.)Used to describe the moment of downturn for a previously successful enterprise.

The phrase jump the shark comes from the climactic scene an episode opening the fifth season of the American TV series Happy Days in September 1977. In this story, the central characters visit Los Angeles, where a water-skiing Fonzie (Henry Winkler), wearing swimming trunks and his leather jacket, jumps over a confined shark, answering a challenge to demonstrate his bravery.

"It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite television program has reached its peak. That instant that you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it the climax. We call it 'Jumping the Shark.' From that moment on, the program will simply never be the same." -- Jon Hein, creator of the now defunct website 'jumptheshark.com' which popularised the term.

We think the term is most apropos when it come to Sylvanic. As you can see from the 4th Sylvanic expedition below, Todd Standing creates a Blair Witch style video, where he is actually attacked by Sasquatch. According to the video, ultimately the "attack" causes his crew to call in a Search and Rescue team to, uh, search and rescue Todd Standing. Enjoy the video below we have no idea how long it will be up.

Todd Standing's Sylvanic Bigfoot Erased

First we like to thank fan, Tom Larson, for bringing this to our attention. Todd Standing has been erased from the internet. At least he has been erased from three major places.
1.) Sylvanic.com been down for weeks
2.) Sylvanic You Tube videos have been switched to private
3.) There is no trace of him at the Erickson Project's website www.sasquatchthequest.com

We tried to contact Todd's listed email as the administrative contact of Sylvanic.com for some answers and as of this morning we have still not heard back.

What we do know is the erasing of Sylvanic and Todd Standing has not been an accident, meaning the domain has not expired. Sylvanic.com does not expire until November 9th of this year. The site is down because Todd Standing wanted it down. The You Tube videos are unavailable because Todd made them to be unavailable.

Is Todd Standing and Sylvanic gone for good? This would be good news, as you know we have been awfully critical of the Sylvanic Bigfoot. We became increasingly concerned when we saw Todd Standing was somehow participating with the highly-regarded Erickson Project.

Photo "proof" of the Sylvanic Bigfoot provided by Todd Standing

The fact that any trace of Todd Standing has been removed from the Erickson Project bodes well for the credibility of the project. The fact that any trace of Todd and Sylvanic.com has been removed from the internet bodes well for the rest of us who take Bigfoot research seriously.

There is another explanation, Sylvanic.com may be going through a transformation and relaunch. This has happened before, when Todd has rebranded the Sylvanic website.

Stay tuned tomorrow when we provide you with screen shots and text of the Sylvanic Website on its first days back in April 6th 2005. As well as a journal he kept during the first few years of his project.

Until then, please view below the YouTube videos, Todd doesn't want you to see.

Stay tuned tomorrow where we share content from the Sylvanic.com's first year, circa 2005. This includes an online journal where Todd shoots back at his critics.

For Your Consideration, Sylvanic Bigfoot Part 3

We announced when the Sylvanic video's first became available for purchase at Sylvanic.com

Then we shared what a German blogger thought of it.

Now we have a complete trilogy. Todd Standings has just a released a new YouTube video to reveal his "technique" for finding a colony of Bigfoot for the second time. It's a piece of animation illustrating a well-executed strategy to capture Bigfoot on film.

Before we get to the video we should note that Todd Standing's name is well-known to Bigfooters. We used the "Way back Machine" with the help of Mr Peabody and his boy Sherman to discover what kind of news Todd was making back in 2007.

In January of '07 Todd Standing was quite the buzz on the internet, claiming the same things he is claiming today; we found a colony of Bigfoot, we know how to track Bigfoot, etc...

Cryptomundo reported this quote from Todd in January '07
The knowledge that my team and I have gained from our experiences in Sylvanic has without a doubt made us the authority on Bigfoot. I know there are a lot of people that are going to be very angry with me for saying that, but from what I have seen already with the mindless chatter that is going on all over the web I don’t care. I know how to track these animals. I know how they have successfully evaded modern men and modern science.

Later that year Bigfoot Encounters reprints an article:
Standing claims to have found and studied a "Bigfoot domicile," or "a Sylvanic" -- an area in the forest that he's convinced a large group of the creatures were inhabiting. But where, exactly, is this domicile? Standing's not talking about that part. He says he wants to protect the beast and its territory

All right, so whats different now? The video's are available for sale and apparently they are not clear enough to stand on their own. I would say this video animation is more interesting than the actual Bigfoot footage. Without further ado.

German Blog: Sylvanic Bigfoot Fake!

Last month we reported the availability of a new video containing footage of the Sylvanic Bigfoot. We did not, however, pony up the cash to pay for the other videos that supposedly had even better footage of Bigfoot. We left that to Sasquat.com. Sasquat.com is a bilingual German/English and Chris Kummar is the blogger in residence. He goes on to describe his blog as:

I write about people, monsters and myths. Nothing symbolizes the myth better than the Sasquatch, a race of ape-men who will live in the wilds of America. No "monster" leaves so many traces, and is seen as often as this legendary animal. Besides Sasquatch I write about other topics from the fields of cryptozoology and anthropology.

I am a freelance journalist and a student from Switzerland.

Do I believe what I write about? At least I believe that it is worth writing about. Do you have to see something for yourself to be aloud to believe in it? If it were so, I can't believe in Bigfoot. But what is "believe"?

I don't believe. Believe is faith, religion, "modular" thinking... I'm open or try to be at least. Based on numerous correspondences with scientists and other Bigfoot-afficiandos, I consider it very likely that Bigfoot (or Sasquatch, as the Native Americans call it) exists.

Okay, so what is Chris's take on the Sylvanic Bigfoot?

Todd Standing is a filmmaker and bigfoot researcher from Western Canada. He claims to have had at least three encounters with bigfoot and to be in possession of two videos of these creatures. In 2007 he got worldwide media attention for his submission to get bigfoot protected in Canada.

I strongly suspect that Standing is a liar too.

Nothing is lost in translation there, he goes on to describe why the videos are so poor and we have reposted his pictures below.

He has shot two videos. One is too short and too dark to make a definitive conclusion. It shows a furry thing disappearing behind a rock. It could be a man in a suit, it could be a bear, it could be a sasquatch. This video can be watched on his website www.sylvanic.com for free.

I have paid for the video and downloaded it. I have made a picture sequence of the most interesting frames. The red arrow shows the costume extension. Click on the image to enlarge.

Sylvanic Bigfoot Project: Populated Bigfoot habitat found

FULL DISCLAIMER: the pic above was enhanced to delineate the alleged Bigfoot and the Rocks in the foreground. You can see the actual unaltered footage in the video futher down the post. Besides we have no horse in this race anyway.

Alberta native Todd Standing is a columnist for www.unexplained-mysteries.com. He is the resident skeptic at Sylvanic Bigfoot Project. The other three in this group included; a biologist from Great Falls, Montana; a Cree Nations elder representing the First Nations People; and a paramedic fire fighter from Calgary, Alberta.

Sylvanic Bigfoot Project's goal is to obtain enough physical evidence to implement government legislation that will ensure the survival of Bigfoot. Who isn't? That's breakfast conversation for us at BLC. We thought the health care bill should have extended to all bipeds, thus covering Bigfoot.

There is a difference between Todd and ourselves. He has found Bigfoot a community of them. This is good, because according to his website, sylvanic.com, that was all he needed; physical proof.

On March 5/ 2007 Alberta native Todd Standing and his team received confirmation from Danielle Lessard of the Clerk of Petitions for Canada (613-992-9511), that our second submission to get protection for the species commonly referred to as Bigfoot was certified. Mike Lake had the petition Tabled before the House of Commons. We received a response on May 12, 2007 from the House of Commons as to their decision on protection of the illusive species.

They responded by giving us the name of a department and a list of scientists employed by the Canadian government that decides whether a species becomes a protected one. This department said, "Show us a body and we will give you your species protection". Not hair, blood or feces, or even a finger or leg, but a fully intact and recently deceased body.

After a tremendous amount of time and dedication we have discovered a new domicile that is regularly inhabited by the species commonly referred to as Bigfoot and are making preparations for the study of this domicile.

Bigfoot videos 2 and 3 were no fluke. A great deal of planning, preparation, and hard work went into getting in position to film these animals.

Here's the rub, they are not finished with their research and do not want to devulge the exact site in order to protect the species. In his own words:

Our goal is to carefully gather as much information about this species while adhering to our first priority, which is to ensure we do not compromise the research site in any way. This species has zero tolerance for any sustained human presence. When a habitat is compromised, not only do we lose a valuable research site, these animals lose their home. Loss of a habitat means loss of life. Our priority now and always will be the welfare of this species. If we feel our work in any way leads to the detriment of these animals our work will stop immediately.

Our ultimate goal is to discover an intact body that has expired due to natural causes.

He does provide some video evidence (below) and narrates his motive and methodology.
