Rational thought and open discussion abounds at new Facebook Group
"This is a pro-Bigfoot group open to skepticism and critical thought, so long as it is not hateful or slanderous." --Steven Streufert
The next best thing to happen to Bigfoot Research. We predict the Coalition for Reason, Science and Sanity in Bigfoot (CFRSSBR)is going to be the best place to openly debate and share rational bigfoot discussions. We also predict it will grow like gangbusters. After being up for only a week it has gained over 100 members. Even better, the activity and participation has been enormous.
The biggest appeal to this facebook group is the tone set by Steven Streufert and Nadia Moore. Both Steven and Nadia have done a great job of establishing respectful debate and openness to skepticism and critical thought.
The description of the group by Steven Streufert is as follows:
This group is open to all, and seeks to promote the spirit of rational thinking and evidence-based reality orientation in a field gone mad with fantastical dreaming and grandiose presupposition. Add all of your "Squatching" friends to this group. This is a pro-Bigfoot group open to skepticism and critical thought, so long as it is not hateful or slanderous. Take a stand for the compatibility of Sasquatch and Reason.

Wow, good to know!
ReplyDeleteExactly when have the words "hateful or slanderous" ever applied to skepticism and critical thought? I'm sorry, but they've lost me right there. Not only is it patently absurd, it's confrontational and defensive. The statement sums up a very prevalent attitude that makes interest in bigfoot irredeemably fringe.
ReplyDeleteIt is simply that we wish to avoid ad hominem arguments, not an aversion to skepticism.
