Today, January 23, in 2008 a picture taken by NASA's rover on Mars began to circulate as "Bigfoot on Mars" despite being four years old at the time.
The news hit the UK first with the The Telegraph reporting, "The photograph, taken in 2004 by the Mars explorer Spirit, appears to show a human shaped object that looks startingly like previous photographs purporting to have captured Bigfoot."
On this side of the Atlantic Ocean, a local ABC affiliate printed this in their Water Cooler section, "Recently, a space enthusiast enlarged a single frame from one of those images, and found a figure that some say resembles some sort of 'Bigfoot' creature."
For the rest of the day the photo went viral and finally made it to Anderson Cooper of CNN. Although Anderson Cooper found it laughable, he did interview a serious documentary director. Watch the video below.

ReplyDeleteMost of the comments over there blame "the skeptics" (no surprise!), but it sure sounds to me like Loren's singling out you, Guy, as the reason for his threatened departure. Maybe all these "Today" posts, which are swiftly coming to dominate screen space over at CM, have finally pushed him over the edge? Care to comment?
This is a common criticism from Loren Coleman, I have heard it before. This is the same argument you would hear from a circus barker concerned his tent will not be filled due to another's voice. In my mind we are not circus barkers and if there is a tent, we are trying to fill the same one. We, among many others, are selling tickets to the greatest show on earth, Cryptozoology, and there is room for all of us.
DeleteTo be more specific (and less poetic), I work really hard to create posts on Cryptomundo that work well as stand-alone posts, I also change links to link within Cryptomundo when I can. At the end of each post I have a link to BLC framed as bonus material, not as a cliff-hanger.
Overall, it is a short-sighted criticism based on an inaccurate understanding of how people consume media. If I shared the same viewpoint I would be concerned about "cannibalizing" my own content and publishing it at Cryptomundo.
As a matter of pride, and friendship, I want to create value for Cryptomundo. Even more importantly I want to create value for readers. This a labor of love for me.
Great article Guy!! I never seen this before. As in the photo on mars. I watched the CNN video,and remembered why I don't watch much tv. The hipster doofus in the suit. Lol.
ReplyDeleteThere appears to be a face on mars. Why not BF? This would be one event I think we may not want to see confirmed,however. IMO the skeptics would riot!! Lol
