Celebrate P/G Film Day (Oct 20th) With Bob Gimlin and Bill Munns

Bob Gimlin was there when the most famous Bigfoot footage was
filmed and Bill Munns  has done the most signifivcant analysis of it.

Ahhh to be a fly on the wall when two of  the biggest contributors to Bigfoot research discuss the most iconic footage of Bigfoot. The video below is an candid spontaneous conversation between Bob Gimlin and Bill Munns recapping the events that must have happened when Roger Patterson filmed.

The most exciting thing about the video, in our opinion, is that both garner new insights from each other while discussing Bill Munns 3d representation of the events.

Today in Bigfoot History | May 17 2005 | Bob Heironimus Passes Lie Detector Test Claiming He Was Bigfoot

Decades later, the two that claimed they hoaxed the Patterson Gimlin Film
failed to recreate the film despite haveing better materials, tools, and technology

Yakima Man Claims He's the Real Bigfoot
on PAX Television Channel 'Lie Detector' Aired May 17, 2005 8:00 PM ET/PT

Bob Heironimus, a 64-year-old retired man from Yakima, Washington, claims the famous 1967 Roger Patterson film of the legendary "Bigfoot" was all a hoax, on PAX TV's "Lie Detector," airing Tuesday, May 17, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Heironimus submitted to a lie detector test administered by leading polygraph expert Dr. Ed Gelb to try to prove that he was the infamous creature shot on film in Bluff Creek, California, wearing just a modified gorilla costume, which does not match the figure in the Patterson film. Not even close.

Hosted by Rolonda Watts, "Lie Detector" is a provocative series that examines the truth behind real-life stories ripped from the headlines, using the most powerful instrument to detect deception - the polygraph.

Heironimus took the polygraph on live television and passed the test according to Dr. Ed Gelb, proving once and for all that along with passed polygraphs by serial killers like Ted Bundy, Heironimus believes he was the man in the suit to the degree that he too was able to pass the polygraph.
Is it any wonder the polygraph is not admissible evidence in a court of law?

It is note worthy to mention that Heironimus is unable to produce the alleged costume with breasts he allegedly wore 38 years ago and he was unable to satisfactorly say why he waited all these years to make such an admission.

Additionally, Heironimus footprints do not match those left by the creature in the Patterson Film and he is unable to duplicate the locomotion of the creature filmed by Roger Patteron in October of 1967. The fundamental nature of Heironimus' statement is phoney. He lied and passed the polygraph anyway, just as serial killer Ted Bundy did all the way down death row to the electric chair.

After watching the video below you can read about Bill Munns project to definitively put the debate to bed.

Nadia Moore wrote on behalf of the Bigfoot Discovery Museum:

These pictures are from Bill's Discovery Day V presentation, as he discussed in great detail his recent work, made possible by a Grant arranged by Dr. Meldrum, in recreating the anatomy of "Patty" using live models for in depth comparisons between her movement and various natural versions of the human form, both male and female, in costume and sans clothing.  He also made several chest panels using various synthetic materials available in 1967, in order to try and recreate a costume which would duplicate the appearance of Patty and her movement.  The third branch of this project was the recreation of the "costume" described by Bob Heironimus in his claim that he was hired by Roger Patterson to be the object of Roger's film. Not only has Bob been unable to describe the actual location that the film was made, let alone how to get there, but the research of Mr. Munns has now proven once and for all that the "costume" as described by Heironimus is structurally, anatomically, and logistically incapable of portraying what is in the famous 1967 Film.
We recommend you read her entire Bill Munns Presentation write-up. below are some of the photos Nadia Moore took that exposes some of the challenges Bob Heironimus would have to overcome based on how he described the construction of the suit.

Bob Heironimus described the head was attached to a football helmet.

A recreated head shows the angle of head tilt required.
Although to be fair, Patty is leaning forward, the  live person is leaning back.

Dr. Jeff Meldrum has said Bill Munns dissection is the most promising and extensive reseaerch done on the film and you help the research reach more people by funding Bill Munns's documentary at IndieGoGo.

You Can Greenlight Bill Munns Documentary: When Roger Met Patty

Bill Munns is Planning a Full-Length Feature Documentary on the
Patterson/Gimlin Film
Bill Munns is a Hollywood creature designer, 3D computer graphics professional, and arguably the foremost expert on the Patterson/Gimlin film. Bill Munns is campaigning for funds and planning the production of a feature length documentary touting, "the remarkable truth of the Patterson/Gimlin Film, and the Bigfoot/Sasquatch phenomenon."

According to Bill Munn's video on IndiGoGo (see below), his goal is to produce something worthy of submitting to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), a/k/a the Oscars. He believes this level of visibility will encourage mainstream media to take notice and raise the bar for intelligent discussion.

At IndieGogo, the crowdsourcing website Bill Munns has chosen, Bill Munns describes the documentary:

The documentary, by it’s vary title, seems to be focused simply on the PGF event, but it will equally give abundant attention to the many other respectful research efforts ongoing today. But an excellent documentary feature tells a story the audience can relate to, and the concept I have chosen is to first take the one most powerful event in Bigfoot/Sasquatch lore and show why, beyond any doubt, it is a real event, and then, with that established, expand the story to the current research efforts, their accomplishments and their challenges as they continue. So the PGF, the event where Roger Patterson met and filmed the entity we call Patty, that is the title centerpiece of this story, and effectively sets up the discussions of current research. So please do not think this project neglects the many fine research endeavors currently ongoing. The PGF focus in the title is simply what in great narrative program structure is referred to as “the hook”, that element which catches the public and mainstream media’s attention and holds on, so they will continue to watch and learn about all the other fine research projects today.

I’ve already got 5 years of concentrated effort in the PGF analysis, some wonderful scientific research that was funded by the Cestone Foundation through the greatly appreciated assistance of Prof. Jef Meldrum, and I’ve got about 15 hours of HD video already accumulated as potential footage for the documentary. So I’m well positioned to reach the goal. But producing a feature documentary that is eligible for Academy Award consideration and festival submission is a major undertaking, and needs some financial support. So that’s what I’m asking for now.
Munns also describes a the documentary approach and a possible second episodic format for perhaps television.

The Documentary Concept

A great documentary tells a story in a focused and concise way, The documentary program concept recognizes that the PGF is the most familiar event in the mind of the general public and media, so the program leads with a definitive summation of why the PGF is real. Then the program branches out to examine the many new technique and new technologies being applied to this elusive entity we call Bigfoot or Sasquatch. I have commitments for interviews with Jeff Meldrum, Brian Brown and the TBRC/TWARC field studies, Bart Cutino and his thermal studies, and The Olympic Project’s remarkably diligent field studies.

Second, the production concept is that researchers, not TV program executives, should control the editing and content decisions. TV Program executives have lost sight of reality and responsible science and can’t resist program eye candy and sensationalism, out of context, over science in context. The story of this remarkably mysterious entity must be told with sincere respect for the real science, the real research, and the real challenges of bringing this entity into a position of biological science recognition. The content decisions and the final edit must be in the hands of researchers. This program will be.

Program Versions

One of the unique aspects of this project is that it recognizes that studies of this topic need different levels of detail and varying presentation times for different audiences, and so the final program result will be set up with four levels of comprehensive information.

Werewolf Fur Compared to Hovey Bigfoot Photo

Melissa Hovey Bigfoot game cam photo compared to "Werewolf fir" from
National Fiber Technology (Click to enlarge.)

This pictured required
2 yards of NFT Werewolf fur
Ever since Darwin, Werewolves have lost their glory as the king of hirsute bipedal  beasts.  We have always believed werewolves (fake) have been misidentified Bigfoot (real). Now it may be the other way around.

In our previous posts, Bill Munns speculated that the above photo on the left had used fur that was familiar to the creature FX world (read his full opinion here). Lee Romaire, creature designer for Letters from the Big Man, was able to name the fur he had thought to be used in the fabrication of the picture (read his full opinion here). The name of the fur was NFT Werewolf Fur.

Fellow Bigfooter, Rodney Young, posted some pictures on Facebook Group, Coalition for Reason, Science, Sanity in Bigfoot Research. He decided to request samples of Werewolf Fur from National Fiber Technology (NFT) and photograph the samples on the back torso of a mannequin for comparison. Rodney was able to use varyious lighting and backgrounds. MAXIMIZE the slide show below to see high-definition detail and click "SHOW INFO" for NFT product description used in each photo.

Anatomy of Melissa Hovey Bigfoot Picture by David Claerr

"The trapezius muscles are very robust in the Bigfoot or Sasquatch, accounting for much of their tremendous upper-body strength." --David Claerr

Whether it is stars aligning just right or coincidence, we can agree on serendipity. When Melissa Hovey's picture of the back of a Sasquatch came out, David Claerr was already working on an article about the anatomy of the upper torso of Sasquatch.

David has written multiple articles, each one with rich 3d illustrations. Yesterday he released one that is related to the Melissa Hovey photo that has made the internet rounds (see below).
The Melissa Hovey photo.
As you may know at Bigfoot Lunch Club posted a few opinions from Special FX experts. The first one was from Bill Munns, creator of the life-sized Giganto Pithicus, and the other opinion was from Lee Romaire, who created the Bigfoot costume for Letters from the Big Guy. Click the following links to read Bill Munns' opinion and Lee Romaire's opinion.

Now we have another professional opinion specifically targeting the perceived anatomy of the photo.  Read an excerpt from David Claerr's post titled, "Bigfoot Back: The Upper Torso of a Sasquatch - Posterior Anatomical Study" below.

David Claerr
The recent release of a photo purported to be that of the back and torso of a Bigfoot or Sasquatch has many intriguing elements that correlate to the findings of my current research and interpretation of the Sasquatch musculoskeletal system. Although there is a possibility that the photo is the product of an artfully crafted hoax, there are number of characteristics in the appearance of the figure that oddly and coincidentally resemble the latest series of anatomical illustrations I was working on when the photo was released.
A mature Sasquatch or Bigfoot has a skeletal structure that is similar in most respects to that of a human, differing mainly in the overall size and in the proportional relationships. The torso of a Bigfoot is typically much larger and massive than that of a human, with a barrel chest, and broad, high-set shoulders.
The main muscles in the upper back, the trapezius pair, attach to the spine, shoulder blades, and and to the base of the skull, as depicted in the accompanying illustrations. (The images can be selected by number and enlarged by clicking directly on the image.) The trapezius muscles are very robust in the Bigfoot or Sasquatch, accounting for much of their tremendous upper-body strength. Read the rest on David's Site

Bill Munns, Creature FX Expert, Weighs in on Game Cam Bigfoot Picture

Photoshop illustration of Bill Munns looking at the Melissa Hovey Bigfoot Picture
"If it is fake, it does represent a fair amount of both skill and expense on the part of the fabricator." --Bill Munns

Professional creature effects artist and 3D digital expert, Bill Munns, weighs in on the game cam bigfoot picture released by Melissa Hovey at her Search for Bigfoot blog. You can read Bill Munns' opinion following the picture in question.

Possible Sasquatch Picture Taken from a Game Cam (click to enlarge)
My immediate concern was that the photo, if a game cam type, is cropped, since such photos usually have some time/date material included. So I must assume this photo was cropped. I have been told that the cropping was because something in the wider landscape would identify the location, and there was concern to keep the location secret. I find this explanation lacking, because the full image could be shown with minimal Photoshop re-touching of any landscape element which might identify the location, while still allowing more of this subject's body. So that issue immediately raised suspicion in my mind.
The subject, as we see it, is just hair and the hint of skin through sparse sections of hair, in the shape of a head, shoulders, torso and one upper arm. This can be so easily fabricated that it would be impossible to falsify the alternative, which means it would be impossible to validate this as being real.
The hair is curious for its length and sparseness, with a pale flesh tone through the hair. This is not standard cheap fake fur. Such is occasionally seen with custom hair made by National Fibre Technology (NFT) for movie creatures, but it's not cheap. The mixture of greys and black hair colors is also something NFT can produce on order.
The disheveled lay of the hair reminds me of fake fur that's been mussed up rubbing against things and not brushed out. The fact that the hair tends to be consistent in density, length, and color tones, also is a characteristic common to use of artificial fur. Real mammals tend to have more variance of the hair (length, density, tone, or combinations of these traits) from the head into the torso and arm, but this does not.
So my conclusion is that the figure is suspicious, and while it cannot be called an outright fake, I know it could easily be faked, and as such, I would not put any confidence in its being real.
If it is fake, it does represent a fair amount of both skill and expense on the part of the fabricator.

Oregon Sasquatch Symposium is a Go! Speakers include Bob Gimlin and Bill Munns!

The 2012 Oregon Sasquatch Symposium will be in Portland, Oregon.

Toby Johnson, the big kahuna at OSS, has announced two big names that will be presenting at this years OSS. Click this link to read about the previous Oregon Sasquatch Symposiums.

Bob Gimlin and Bill Munns will actually present in tandem, the topic, believe it or not will be Bluff Creek. This will be the first time both have collaborated together to prepare a presentation. Bill Munns plans on presenting some compelling research he has done with 3d graphics, including details such as exact camera angles.

Bob Gimlin of the Patterson/Gimlin fame.

Bob Gimlin was with Roger Patterson when Patterson filmed the well known Patterson/Gimlin footage in Bluff Creek CA, in 1967. The film shows a large, hairy, female primate walking upright on two feet, and is unquestionably the best known footage of a Sasquatch ever obtained. It's interesting to note that although many dispute the film's authenticity, it has never been proven to be a fake in the years since it was filmed.

Bill Munns with his recreation of Gigantopithecus

Bill Munns was first connected to the Bigfoot discussion by virtue of his well publicized full scale reconstructed figure of Gigantopithecus (with him standing beside it), originally published in the book "Other Origins", and subsequently digitized and freely copied into Bigfoot websites and Forums whenever the discussion turned to Gigantopithecus and its potential relationship to the Sasquatch. Bill has worked as a special effects/prosthetics makeup artist since 1969, starting at Universal Studios, under Mike Westmore. During his career, he has made numerous full body suits, fur costumes, masks, and animatronics for various movies, TV shows, and commercials. Based on that experience, in 2008, he began a series of postings online re: "Creature Suit Analysis", with both general information about making creature type suits or costumes for films, and specific references to the ongoing controversy of the Patterson-Gimlin Film, and the debate as to whether what is seen in the film is a real creature or a hoaxed event with a person in a fur suit.

The date is not set in stone, but it is slated for mid to late October. Stay tuned at http://oregonsasquatchsymposium.webs.com/ for future details.

Bill Munns; Creature Creator and Bigfoot Analyst

Last night you may have caught the NatGeo special American paranormal: Bigfoot. It was a pleasant surprise to see Bill Munns.

In case the name sounds familiar, you may also remember Bill Munns for the life-size Gigantopithicas he designed and built. A veteran movie "creature guy" who got started in 1967, studied under Mike Westmore, joined Universal's makeup staff in 1969, designed the suits for Swamp Thing (and wore the villian suit for the last half of the climactic fight and death scene in the swamps.) Below is a montage of things Bill has worked on.

Bill Munn's has gone from "creature guy" to computer graphic specialist. He has honed his multiple skills to analyze the Patterson/Gimlin film from multiple angles. Literally. If you want the Patterson/Gimlin film analyzed in almost every detail and with continual updates, go no further than the Munns Report.

In one of the opening paragraphs of one version of the report, Bill Munns goes over the phillosophy behind his report.

The Munns Report is an analysis by Bill Munns of the Patterson Gimlin Film of 1967. It will be released in sections as they are completed. The first report section is focused on the camera lens and a digital site model replicating Bluff Creek, where the film was originally taken. Additional report sections will further substantiate the Lens Analysis, will document the Subject Height Analysis, will study the Trackway Path of the film's subject, and expand on a prior study of Anatomical Proportion for the film subject.

The Munns Report, as a research document and a website, has been online since May of 2009, but I have been actively researching this film now for two years. In my personal evaluation of this effort, I took a look back at the time spent and made a form of inventory of what was accomplished, what needs to be done, where this research is going, what issues need further study, what issues can be retired as of no consequence, etc. And I felt that putting this personal evaluation into the form of a Report Update was an appropriate step to share with the research/analysis community.

We insist you check out the the MunnsReport.com it is like going down the rabbit hole and exploring the Patterson/Gimlin film from so many angles with such rich detail. You will ask your self questions you never thought of.

Bill Munns we salute you!
